Annual Health and Wellness Festival
Thursday, June 7, 2018

Join us for the annual South Pasadena Farmers' Market Health and Wellness Festival on Thursday, June 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visit local health care providers and organizations and learn how they can help support your healthy lifestyle. The festival is free to the community as part of a South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce effort to make connections for the community and create a strong local economy.

The South Pasadena Farmers' Market is open every Thursday, rain or shine, from 4 - 8 pm (summer hours). It is located on Meridian Ave. and El Centro Street, south of Mission Street. Find California-grown and certified organic produce in your own back yard, as well as wonderful prepared foods and a festive small-town atmosphere.

Update on Water Discoloration

To assist residents with understanding this discoloration issue, the City has developed a  comprehensive FAQ . This FAQ will be updated as more information becomes available.

The Public Works Department is addressing reports of cloudy and discolored water in some homes across certain areas of the City. In addition to working directly with customer experiencing issues, the City is working closely with the State and water experts to implement near- and long-term solutions to address the problem. Ongoing tests demonstrate South Pasadena drinking water is safe and meets United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water (DDW) standards.

In March, the City switched from its usual groundwater supply to surface water purchased from the Metropolitan Water District (MWD). This is a temporary solution to address the requirement for the City to discontinue use of most of its groundwater supply until treatment is in place to meet a new State regulation. The City has used MWD water previously with no discolored water issues. However, it appears that extended, ongoing usage of MWD water maybe causing release of iron from some pipes.

City Passport Service Moves to Library
Residents may submit passport applications by appointment

The City's passport services are now available at the South Pasadena Public Library, 1100 Oxley St., by appointment only. Previously, passport services were offered at City Hall.

Appointments can be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and at 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. on Mondays.

The Library is more easily accessible for residents and visitors who may not regularly visit City Hall, said City Manager Stephanie DeWolfe. "The Library is a well-known, easily accessible community resource," DeWolfe said. "From a customer service standpoint it makes sense to provide passport services from that location."

To schedule an appointment, call: 626-403-7330. Appointments must be scheduled at least one week in advance.

S.C.A.G. Video of South Pasadena's Award Winning Collaborative Partnership

One of the highlights of the annual Regional Conference and General Assembly is the presentation of the 2018 SCAG Sustainability Awards, which honor projects in the region that best exemplify the core principles of sustainability from local governments, non-profits, developers and partnerships. The Sustainability Awards recognize projects that best coordinate land use and transportation to improve the mobility, livability, prosperity and health of Southern California.

The Collaborative Partnership Award was honored at the Sustainability Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 3:

COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP
Cities of Arcadia, Azusa, Duarte, Irwindale, Monrovia, San Marino, South Pasadena and LA Metro | 626 Golden Streets

Modeled after the thousands of "ciclovia" events that have been staged in cities around the world, 626 Golden Streets temporarily closed off stretches of roadway from South Pasadena to Azusa for people to walk, jog, skate, bike, run and play. Over 18 miles of streets, linking 6 Metro Gold Line stations, were made car-free on March 5, 2017. Eight San Gabriel Valley communities participated in the event, which was held on the one-year anniversary of the Foothill Gold Line Phase 2A Azusa extension opening.
