FREE Mulch & Compost Giveaway Event
Saturday, May 5, 2018

The City of South Pasadena will be hosting a FREE mulch and compost giveaway event on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the School District parking lot - 1020 El Centro Street. South Pasadena residents are welcome to scoop up to a maximum of 100 gallons of compost or mulch at no charge. Residents must bring their own sturdy containers, but shovels will be provided for everyone's use.

Giveaway will be on a first come, first served basis. For more information  visit the City's website or contact Public Works at 626-403-7240.

Mulch vs. Compost
Mulch (donated by West Coast Arborist) is chipped tree trimmings or bark chips which serve as a protective cover for your soil. It reduces evaporation, reduces weeds and is an attractive addition to your landscape. Mulch should be laid 3" to 4" thick to be most effective.

Compost (donated by Athens) consists of yard trimmings and/or food waste which breaks down to a fine dark matter over time. Compost should be added into the soil to provide essential nutrients to your plants via their roots.

City Budget Presentation
Wednesday, May 16, 2018

Do you wonder where your property taxes go? Are you curious about how your City decides which street sections to repair next? The City of South Pasadena, like many local governments, makes these and other important decisions through the annual budget process, which takes place between March and June each year.

The City began the process with an online Survey focused on Community Priorities which was released Monday, April 16, 2018. Over 500 responses have been received and evaluated as part of the budget process. On Wednesday, May 16, the City will hold a Public Hearing on the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget , where staff will present the City's finances, review their department budgets, the proposed Capital Improvement Plan, and funding requests for the upcoming year.

The input received through the online survey and public hearing will continue to guide the priorities for the annual budget process. Finally, at the Wednesday, June 6, 2018 City Council meeting, the City will hold a public hearing to further discussion and adoption of the budget. Public comment is encouraged at each meeting.

Draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Available For Public Review

The City of South Pasadena is currently in the process of updating its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).  This plan helps prepare the City by reviewing the hazards and risks associated with its facilities related to natural and human caused disasters.  The LHMP has been reviewed by both the City's Public Safety Commission and the Planning Commission.  In addition to these bodies, the document is also available for public review by the City's residents.  Please click here to view the Plan.

If you are interested in making a comment on the LHMP, please email them
to Acting Captain Robert Bartl of the South Pasadena Police Department at: [email protected]

The Public Review periods closes on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
