How to Learn from Your Surplus Inventory "Backstories"

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

George Santayana (1863-1952)

Do you apply this adage to your surplus inventory?  Have you learned anything from your past purchasing/inventory management mistakes?  And, as a result, have you changed your policies, processes or training as they relate to your company's purchasing and inventory management activities?

Here are three simple steps to avoid repeating your most egregious purchasing/inventory management mistakes.

Member Feedback

"A new customer needed a non-standard item for a broken-down machine.  Using WarehouseTWO, we found the non-standard item in stock at another distributor and got our customer's machine up and running when the machine dealer could not."

Distribution "Quip" of the Month

There are three reasons why a customer insists on buying something from you for which you are not an "authorized" distributor:
  1. He does not know that you are not the "authorized" distributor.
  2. He likes your company so much that he wants to buy everything from you.
  3. He is on CREDIT HOLD with the "authorized" distributor.

WarehouseTWO Tip of the Month

Upload only items and quantities that you are willing to sell to another WarehouseTWO member.  If you are not willing to sell it, do not show it.  Repeatedly telling other members, "Sorry, this item is stocked for a specific end-customer of ours, and I cannot sell it to you" will quickly "black ball" you among other WarehouseTWO members.  For more tips on how to be a good player at WarehouseTWO, read our Inventory-Sharing Etiquette document.
Referral Rewards Program

The easiest way to get more value from your WarehouseTWO account is to increase participation by other distributors and manufacturers.  Over the years, many of you have been loyal "evangelists", recommending WarehouseTWO to peer distributors, to manufacturers and to associations and marketing groups.

We want to encourage and compensate you for the results of your efforts.  To learn more about our "WarehouseTWO Referral Rewards" program, and how you and your company can benefit, click here.
