September 2025

Greetings,

With the new school year well underway, our six elementary schools are buzzing with energy, curiosity, and connection as students take part in activities that celebrate both learning and community. From STEM challenges and outdoor science exploration to family picnics and other schoolwide events, students are experiencing what it means to learn, grow, and flourish together. We invite you to spend a few minutes reading more about the many great things happening across our schools!

Sincerely,

Anne Silavs, Superintendent

Arnold – STEM in Action

Fourth graders took part in hands-on STEM challenges that sparked creativity and teamwork. Students rotated through activities that stretched their problem-solving and engineering skills—from designing parking systems to building the tallest tower. Along the way, they practiced collaboration, communication, and perseverance. By the end of the day, students had not only sharpened their STEM knowledge but also strengthened their bonds as classmates.

King – A Picnic to Remember

The King community kicked off the school year with a lively Welcome Back Family Picnic hosted by the PTA. Families gathered to enjoy picnic lunches, play games, and spend time connecting with one another. Parents and children played basketball, handball, and even tried their skills at cornhole. Longtime King families extended warm greetings to new ones, marking a joyful beginning to the year focused on community and school spirit.

Landell – Exploring Earth’s Systems

At Landell, fifth graders brought science to life in the school’s outdoor classroom. After studying Earth’s four spheres (the atmosphere, geosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere), students worked in teams to spot real-world examples. Excited discoveries included plants growing in soil and water shaping the land. The scavenger hunt combined teamwork and exploration, making classroom lessons both memorable and meaningful.

Luther – Fun Run Success

Luther’s annual APEX Fun Run filled the campus with energy. Students set personal goals, encouraged classmates, practiced perseverance, and celebrated accomplishments as they ran laps around the field. Families played a big part in the event’s success by raising funds to enhance student learning experiences and support schoolwide projects. It was a day full of laughter, teamwork, and memories that will last well beyond the finish line.

Morris – Building Friendships

The Morris playground now features a Friendship Table, a welcoming spot where students can gather during recess to be a friend or make a friend. With a student-made sign and a selection of fun activities, it quickly stands out as a bright and inviting part of the playground. The only rule is simple—be kind and friendly. Already, the Friendship Table is fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging, giving every child a place to feel seen, valued, and part of the school community.

Vessels – School Recognition

For the third year in a row, Vessels has earned the California Coalition for PBIS Platinum Implementation Award. This recognition highlights the school’s strong commitment to building a safe, supportive, and positive environment for every child. Through clear expectations, consistent routines, and celebrations of student success, the school community continues to thrive. Winning this award three years running is a proud milestone.
