Congratulations to Karel Pene Njine, our YWomen Education Award Recipient!
|
|
Karel Pene Njine is this year's YWomen Education Award recipient. Karel was selected with the help of Evanston Scholars, an organization that improves college access and success for first generation or low income students.
Karel, a Cameroonian immigrant and senior at Evanston Township High School, has a passion for racial justice and community building. Karel’s English teacher praises her “original thinking and sharply analytical mind." In addition to her academic achievements, Karel is a member of the Intersectional Feminist Club, the Black Summit Leadership Board, and the Emerge Leadership Committee.
Our mission to empower women starts with empowering girls to achieve their goals. The YWomen Education Award provides young women with a $1,000 scholarship to pursue their education and develop their leadership skills.

2022 Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate
Juneteenth, Sunday June 19, 2022 @ 7:30 am
Floyd Long Field, 2436 Sheridan Rd, Evanston, IL
5/10K Run/Walk, Youth Mile/Half Mile
Each year, the Race Against Hate brings together thousands of people from all over Chicagoland to run and walk in unity against racial hatred and violence. The event memorializes Ricky Byrdsong, former Northwestern University men's basketball coach and Vice President of Community Affairs at Aon Corporation, who, while walking with two of his young children, was murdered by a white supremacist in 1999. After modifying the event for the past two years to accommodate safety protocols, we are thrilled to once again come together as a community on this Juneteenth to raise awareness and funds to support the YWCA's anti-racism and violence prevention services.

The theme for this year's parade, presented by Evanston Present and Future and Mari & Mari, is "Honoring the past, celebrating the future," and will feature the Jesse White Tumblers!

Here's What Happens When You Give to YWCA
|
|
When you give to YWCA, you provide safety, support, skills, and resources that help individuals reach their full potential. When you give, you provide help for today and hope for tomorrow.
|
|
- You help women break the cycles of violence and abuse, and get the support they need to heal and thrive.
- You provide skills, knowledge and a path to employment that help women build more stable futures for themselves and their families.
- You enable individuals to deepen their understanding of structural and systemic racism, and create actionable steps to end it.
- You put in motion a cascade of programs and services that support our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.
