Two replacement levies on the Feb. 8 ballot
Lake Stevens School District has two replacement levies on the Feb. 8, 2022 ballot, a replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy and a replacement Technology Levy.

The current levies, which voters approved in 2018, expire this year. The replacement levies will provide funding for schools through 2026. These are not new taxes.

“We are asking our community to replace our local levies so we can continue to provide quality programs led by staff members who support the learning needs of all of our students,” said Dr. Ken Collins, Superintendent of Lake Stevens School District. “Our Board of Directors was very intentional in selecting a levy amount that allows us to continue to provide the programs and services that our community has come to expect, while also considering the impact of our taxpayers,” said Collins. “We work very hard to be fiscally prudent and we appreciate our community’s longstanding history of supporting its schools.”

Replacement Educational Programs & Operations Levy
The replacement Educational Programs & Operations Levy helps fund the following:

  • Nurses
  • Student mental health support professionals
  • Family Engagement Specialists
  • School safety and security
  • Early learning programs
  • Special education programs
  • Student transportation
  • Professional learning
  • Substitute personnel
  • Supplies and materials
  • Extracurricular activities and athletics

Replacement Technology Levy
The replacement Technology Levy helps fund the following:

  • Classroom technology to maintain 1:1 devices for students
  • Replacement of classroom technology and aging devices
  • Professional learning
  • Technical support
  • Infrastructure upgrades, including network, bandwidth and phones
  • Innovative technology
Meet our new Student Advisory Council
The Student Advisory Council (SACo) is a student driven organization that is dedicated to providing student voice on important matters being considered by the School Board. In addition to providing valuable student prospective, members of the SACo will collaborate with Board members and district administrators on important decisions with the ultimate purpose of building student leadership capacity. Read the Lake Stevens High School Valhalla's coverage of the SACo.
K-7 Family Conferences are Feb. 14 to 17
Monday, Feb. 14 through Thursday, Feb. 17 is Family Conference Week for students in kindergarten through seventh-grade. Elementary and middle school students will be released 2.5 hours early each day. Lunch will be served at school. There is no preschool this week.

Families will receive conference scheduling information from their child's teacher or school.

All schools are closed Friday, Feb. 18 and Monday, Feb. 21.
How we communicate about school delays and closures
When winter weather hits, our top priority is the safety of students and employees. Our district's geography is taken into account when the decision is made. One part of our area may be clear while other areas are struggling with snow or ice. It is not possible to close some schools in the district while leaving other schools open.

To help make the best possible decision, weather forecasts are monitored throughout the process. District staff members drive the roads beginning at 3:30 a.m. checking schools and routes that are frequently impacted and report road conditions to the superintendent. A decision and announcement is made as quickly as possible, with the goal of notification to staff and families by 6 a.m. This process sometimes changes based on weather conditions.

Information is shared using these communication channels:

  • Text message
  • Mobile app notification
  • Email to families
  • Social media posting
  • District website posting

We do not use our automated calling system for school delays and closures due to weather. If no messages are posted, schools are open and operating on normal schedules.

Delay and closure options:

  • Schools start on time (no message will be shared).
  • Schools start on time with limited bus service or buses on snow routes. Afternoon bus service will also be on snow routes. 
  • Schools start two hours late (no a.m. preschool, no out-of-district transportation, no morning Sno-Isle bus).
  • Schools are closed (no after school activities, athletics or facility use).

Options are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
