Message from our Board Chair,

Jeff Guignard

It is with a mix of sadness and pride that we announce Dana Harris will be leaving her position as Executive Director of the British Columbia Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) on January 31, 2022.

I am immensely proud of everything Dana has accomplished over the past four years. Her endless passion, relentless dedication, and positive leadership style have benefited the Foundation immeasurably, especially amid the extraordinary challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we cannot thank her enough for everything she has contributed to the BCHF.

While Dana is leaving the BCHF, she’s not going far. She’ll be re-focusing her attention on her business, Dana Lee Consulting Ltd., while spending more time with her husband and new grandson. She’ll also be mentoring her niece, Montana, on her business.

Dana has often said she considers it a real privilege to have been the BCHF’s ED. I know she’s proud of the Foundation’s many successes over the past couple of years, thanks to the teamwork of our Board, staff, Industry Advisory Council, and volunteers, as well as the amazing support from the hospitality and tourism community at large.

Please join us in wishing Dana a fond farewell as she moves on to the next chapter of her career. You can reach her directly at [email protected].

Alana Dickson smaller.png

While it’s hard to imagine the BCHF without Dana at the helm, we are excited to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Alana Dickson.

Alana is an accomplished marketer, communicator, event manager, and business owner with deep and passionate connections to BC’s hospitality industry. As owner of Aurillia Consulting, Alana has worked with many of BC’s most prominent hospitality associations on various events and marketing campaigns, as well as wine regions from around the world. She also has a long history with the BCHF, having volunteered previously as a fundraising partner and industry advisor.

“Alana is a passionate, focused, and highly skilled leader,” said Guignard. “I have known and worked with Alana for many years, and I cannot think of anyone better suited to furthering the Foundation’s important work on behalf of BC’s hospitality industry.”

“As a long-time supporter of the BCHF’s work, I am thrilled to give back to the industry that has given me so much over the past fifteen years,” said Dickson. “I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to continue the Foundation’s vital work of ensuring hospitality professionals get the services and support they deserve in their time of need.”

Beneficiary Update: Who We Helped in 2021

2021 was a significant year for the BCHF, as we reached the milestone of having given a total of $1 million to beneficiaries since our inception in 2006.

Last year the BCHF helped 12 people in our local hospitality industry with a total of $55,931.

All the people we supported were facing financial crisis due to a serious health condition experienced by themselves or a family member.

We were able to help in a variety of way, such as by purchasing respiratory machines, paying for physio treatments, topping up GoFundMe campaigns, and temporarily covering basic living expenses.

Beneficiaries included restaurant servers, tour operators, winery employees, hotel housekeepers, and others.
