          This Week's Service:
Abundant Thanks

This is a service for all ages for Thanksgiving. Come, let us together usher in the holiday season! Rev Martha Munson, Lori Staubitz, and friends.

This Week's Drop-In Discussion: Virtue Ethics.  If there is no reward or punishment in the afterlife, what reason is there to be a good person?  One answer is "virtue ethics," which holds that people of good character thrive better in any given set of circumstances that people of bad character, and that every decision you make and every action you take molds your character.  Phil Ebersole will do a presentation and lead a discussion.

Guest at Your Table

Guest at Your Table is an annual tradition in which congregation members learn about several people with whom the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is working. This year, we are featuring people who have empowered others to realize their human rights. These people are your "guests",  and we ask you to share your blessings with them to support our shared mission. To read more about this year's "guests", click here

By celebrating Guest at Your Table, you are helping nurture a spirit of gratitude and "justice, equity, and compassion in human relations."

Thank you for keeping us updated, both when you schedule events and when you need to cancel one!  Please continue to do so. Send news of your events to [email protected] or call 546-2826.

NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, December 1: While You Were Sleeping. Tom Williams relates his experiences working alternate work schedules and what he has taken away from his experiences.

NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, December 1: Interfaith Experiences.  David Damico says that part of his identification as a UU brings to mind many instances of interfaith or inter-denominational sharing.  As UUs, we find our truths in many places. With the recent celebration of the 139th "Interfaith Thanksgiving Service" in Rochester, and as we approach a season of "good will to all," you are welcomed to discuss what your experiences with other faiths have brought to your UU identity.  David Damico will facilitate.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages.  Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor.  We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.

ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST?  Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation?  Then stop by the Welcome Table  in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour.  You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!

BOOK GROUP will meet TODAY at 12:15 PM in the adult lounge.  The book chosen for this month is, "The View from Castle Rock", by Alice Munro, the 2013 Nobel prize winner in Literature.  All are invited to come and join in (or just listen to)  the discussion.

CHOIR REHEARSALS in Preparation for Music Sunday (December 15). This year's theme is "Carols from Around the World."  Sat Dec 7, 5:00p-7:00p (Sanctuary), Sat Dec 14, 5:00p-7:00p (Sanctuary). All are welcome!

THANKSGIVING SERVICE: The 139th Annual Rochester Area Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held Thursday, November 28 at 11 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 601 Edgewood Ave. All are welcome.

MINISTERIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE SURVEY results are posted in the Clara Barton Lounge and can be viewed on our website under the MSC tab. We have modified some of the survey charts that were more difficult to read.  The charts have been enlarged so that you can see all you want to see.

THE 4TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY SHOPPE:  We're back, selling gift items: some repeats (Books from Rev. Gilbert, bookmarks from Mary Louise Gerek). But we need more donations:  think re-gift (it's been in the back of your linen closet and never used); think of your own special craft-knitting, silk screening, etc.  If you can donate or want to help as a Sunday Shoppe seller, contact Paula Marchese at [email protected] , or snag her at coffee hour.  Last year, your generous donations set a new record for the Shoppe and helped us make that line item in the Budget come true.

FIRST UNIVERSALIST RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM could use your help!  We have openings for volunteers in all aspects of the program including teaching, program planning, nursery care and certain one-time projects.   We hope you will join us! Please contact Charlie Courtsal ([email protected]) if you are interested.

SCHOOL 7 FOOD DRIVE: Donations of frozen turkeys, boxes of mashed potatoes, boxes of stuffing, canned gravy, canned corn, canned cranberry sauce, canned yams, mini marshmallows, cooking oil, flour, sugar, rice, pasta and sauce, vegetable oil are needed. Please contact Sarah Singal.

HELP IS NEEDED in the nursery Sundays. If you're interested, please contact Carol Williams at [email protected].

EASTMAN LUNCHTIME CONCERTS: Concerts are held on Thursdays in the sanctuary from 12:15 to 12:45, are free, and open to the public. (No concert Thanksgiving day.)

A CARING COMMITTEE REMINDER: When a family member enters the hospital, needs emergency meals, needs transportation to church, or wants home visits; please contact Ruth Fitzgerald [email protected] 225-0555,or Eileen Fernandez, [email protected].
