Clergy Reflection

The longer I live the more expansive I seem to become and the more awesome and mysterious I discover life to be…even in these weird times. A case-in-point revolves around a seminar that I was privileged to attend at Well for the Journey, a non-profit spiritual wellness center in Towson. It was my first encounter with the organization although I have been on their mailing list for almost a year now thanks to our dear sister, Judy Wright.

Our painting crew has been hard at work this week at Johnston Square Elementary School! We’ve finished painting the library and are now painting the teachers’ lounge and another classroom. Many thanks to Kate Lears & Rebecca Ogus for heading up our crew and to all our volunteers: Alex de Jesus, Ryan Goldrick, George Guyton, Lisa & Lydia Jenkins, Wesley Krieger, Alex Mott, Ben Paglinauan-Warner, Eva Schisler, Anna & Perry Sovich, and Andrei Turner. Thanks too to our Diocesan Youth Missioner, Kate Riley, for joining us today. Please keep our crew and our partners at Johnston Square Elementary in your prayers.

News from ReBuild Johnson Square
Dear Friends of Johnston Square,

In case you missed it, please use this link to WYPR's story covering last week's ribbon cutting in Johnston Square. It was a great event and a hopeful day for Baltimore! Maryland HUD Secretary Holt, and Baltimore’s Mayor Scott each spoke of Johnston Square’s rejuvenation being “the beginning”, and the model for our city’s renewal. This success has been possible through the remarkable work of our Executive Director Sean Closkey, and his excellent team. Sean has led this massive endeavor with clear direction, wisdom and empathy. ReBUILD Metro is fortunate to have him at the helm. At the ribbon cutting, Sean served as a strong master of ceremonies, and Community Leader Regina Hammond gave powerful, and heartfelt remarks. Among the many gathered were BUILD and ReBUILD Metro board members, foundation executives, and most importantly leading the charge, Johnston Square community members.

YOU and your commitment to Baltimore helped to make this exciting event possible. Your dedication is accelerating the positive changes in East Baltimore, and for our city. As we continue our work to create safe and vibrant neighborhoods between Johns Hopkins Hospital and Pennsylvania Station, we are proud to be standing shoulder to shoulder with you.

With Appreciation,
