Clergy Reflection

Do you find yourself using words like never or always to describe experiences or situations in your life? For example, do you say things like: “Oh, I NEVER win anything” or “He ALWAYS forgets my birthday?”

The tribe I currently run with say that our thoughts, the way we perceive our reality, and the way we speak of it all contribute to whatever it is we are currently experiencing in life. In other words, when I say “it always rains when I wash my car,” sets me up to experience an inevitable thunderstorm on the day I wash my car; not because the Universe or G-D has colluded against me, but because my subconscious mind is living a self-limiting belief that directs my conscious mind to deliver. Subconsciously, I hold this belief to be true---and so it is. We human beings are way more powerful than we give ourselves credit for.
This Sunday at 11:30

The Parish Day School, with the Vestry’s approval, has initiated an exciting strategy for growth: adding elementary classes through 3rd grade which completes early childhood education, and creating a public/private partnership with Govans elementary that builds on Redeemer’s commitment to community engagement. Our innovative school option offers child-centered education at an affordable price that is imaginative, messy, joyful, and fun. To accommodate the growing student body and program, we will need to enlarge our teaching and learning space, which will require raising capital funds. Please join me and Head of School Mary Knott in conversation this Sunday after the 10:00 service.

Sundays for Children

This Sunday, as usual, children will be invited, after the Gospel reading, to follow the crucifer down the main aisle to meet Liz Kallmyer and go to the front hall, where those in grade 2 and under will meet for Story Time, and those in grades 3-5 will meet their teachers and go to “Acting in Faith.”

The “Acting in Faith” group will complete their work on sets and props for their play—the story of Noah’s Ark-- to be presented next week for the younger children.
Please register for Sunday School

Bach in Baltimore
This Sunday, May 15 @ 4:00 p.m. at Redeemer

The Pupil & His Tutor: Beethoven & Hayden
Acclaimed as both the “father of the symphony” and the “father of the string quartet,” Haydn
famously tutored a young Beethoven. However, Beethoven claimed, “I never learned anything
from Haydn.” Still, Beethoven’s most famous compositions draw on the symphonic form Papa
Haydn is credited with creating. We invite you to join us for a pair of symphonies from both the
pupil and tutor—Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and Haydn’s Symphony No. 1—and judge for
yourself where the influence lies.
