Clergy Reflection

Do you ever really listen to LIFE?  Do you ever pay attention to the encounters, events, and even the thoughts and feelings that arise within you throughout the day? I have discovered all of them together as a means of conversation with the Divine within me. Twice this week, I was engaged in a conversation around the soul and the apparent soul-less-ness of our current lives as a country. Today, I encountered a meditation by the renowned theologian, Matthew Fox, called “Recovering Soul, Another Contribution of Black Spirituality” and all of these have set me wondering….
Paul’s Place Summer Camp is returning to Redeemer!

Paul’s Place Summer Camp is returning to Redeemer! After a long hiatus, we will once again be hosting a week of Paul’s Place at Redeemer from July 17-21. The theme for this year’s camp is “Makers on the Move.” Campers will explore different creative activities through cooking, arts and crafts, movement, music, reading and math, and workshops. Any students who are rising 9th graders and older are invited to apply to as counselors. A sample schedule, volunteer expectations, and more can be found in the volunteer handbook. If you’d like to serve as a counselor, fill out an application and email it to the Rev. Rebecca Ogus . Then sign up for an interview time here. Adults who would like to volunteer should email the Rev. Cristina Paglinauan. We also need help providing lunch and snacks for our campers and counselors! Sign up to provide a meal or snacks here.
Dreams: God’s Forgotten Language

As people of faith, we know that the Bible is full of stories about nightly dreams, visitations from angels and visions. And, when we think about it, where would we be if, for example, Joseph hadn’t listened to his dreams and taken Mary to safety to bear Jesus? In Western culture, we lost the ancient spiritual practice of dream work centuries ago. This life-guiding practice can be a life-changing part of our journey as people of faith.

All dreams come in the service of healing and wholeness – even the weird and scary ones. Dreams are seen as God’s calling us to wholeness every night, whether we remember them or not, urging us each to become the person God created us to be. Come learn more about dreams in scripture and the spiritual practice of group dream work after the 10:00 service on June 4 and June 11.

BUILD News

Last Saturday, several folks from Redeemer joined a BUILD walk in the east Baltimore neighborhood of Oliver. They learned many positive stories about the neighborhood as well as heard concerns about vacancies. Ted Winstead and Jamie Hutchinson talked with a Dunbar High School junior in an EMT program who has plans for college and medical school. He also spoke of how he and his family had benefited from the neighborhood community center.

To learn more about our campaign and how you can become involved, contact a member of our Redeemer BUILD Core Team: Ted Winstead, Patty McLean, David Cole, Peter Bain, Christina Way, Anita Richardson, Jim Stipe, Susan Millard, Cristina Paglinauan and David Ware
