Clergy Reflection

“Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.”

(The above quote, often attributed to the Talmud, is a loose translation of commentary on a portion of the Pirke Avot, which is itself a commentary on Micah 6:8. See Wisdom of the Jewish Sages: A Modern Reading of Pirke Avot by Rabbi Rami Shapiro.)

The words above landed in my inbox weeks ago, courtesy of a friend, and they have been simmering in the soup of my soul ever since.

I find them particularly relevant and meaningful today, as I continue to reflect on and “be with” the information and research presented by our history committee, on Redeemer’s role in the institution of slavery.

Compline this Sunday

Join the Compline Schola for Sung Prayer at the Close of Day (Compline) in the chapel this Sunday, November 19, at 8:00 p.m. The doors of the chapel will open at 7:45. Compline is an almost entirely sung service which lasts about 25 minutes and is a peaceful way to prepare for the busy week ahead.

Christmas Memorials

We will be decorating the church and chapel for Christmas. If you would like to remember or give thanks for a loved one please provide the names on this form and send a check (donation $50) made out to the church and marked “Christmas Memorials” to the church office.

Christmas memorials and/or thanksgivings must reach us by Wednesday, December 6

Advent Art Show

You are invited to share your icons of the Nativity or Christmastide events in our Advent Art Show. The icons will be displayed in the cabinet in the passageway leading up to the Parish Hall. If you have icons you would like to contribute to the show, please leave them in the Welcome Center by Wednesday, November 29. Be sure to leave your name with them. They will be available to be picked-up after January 6, 2024.

BUILD Action- Evening of December 11

Did you participate in Sacred Ground and/or attend a recent History Committee presentation?

Are you looking for a next step to take, to help move the-world-as-it-is closer to the-world-as-it-should-be by working together to end the legacy of redlining in our own city of Baltimore?

Redeemer has pledged to bring a team of 70 people to gather with hundreds of other BUILD leaders and supporters at Greater Harvest Baptist Church, along with Mayor Brandon Scott & Mark Anthony Thomas, President & CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee, following up our last public action in July when they made a public commitment in front of 500 people to work together to rebuild our neighborhoods and solve our city’s decades-long crisis of vacant and abandoned houses and properties.

Help support our community partner, Johnston Square Elementary School, by purchasing a gift for their Christmas toy drive. Click here to see their Amazon wish list. Items may be sent directly to the school through Amazon. School address: 1101 Valley Street, Baltimore, MD 21202

In order to keep going, we need you. Thank you for prayerfully considering how you might contribute financially to our collective pilgrimage in 2024 and for making as generous a pledge as you can.

Sunday School

This Sunday, Pre-K and K-2 will be reading the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30). This story reminds us that God gives each of us talents and wants us to use them. Our gifts are to be tools, and we are entrusted with building others up through our blessings. Our lesson considers how we can be stewards, not just of money, but of our time, resources, and abilities. When we share what we have with others, ultimately, we wind up with more than we started out having. We are blessed to pass on good things to others, and we give back to God in thanks and gratitude.

Drama and Donuts (grades 3-5) are working hard to prepare for their performance of Noah's Ark. The date of the performance will be announced at a later time.

As the weather turns, please be sure to keep children home who are sick, so we can all stay safe and healthy!

Sunday School classes begin at 9:45 and children will be escorted to the service after the sermon.

Nursery care is available for children under the age of three.

Register for Sunday School here.

Please contact Colleen Everett, Director of Children’s Ministry, if you’re interested in becoming a part of our wonderful program!

Who Are We?? Redeemer Census 2023

Please help Redeemer to update our records! We want to be sure we know who you are and have your most up to date contact information. Additionally, every year the national Episcopal church requests that all congregations complete a parochial report. The report now requests information on the ethnicity of our constituency which is something that we have never recorded. The census should take less than five minutes to complete. Click here to complete the census now. Thank you!
