Thank You
St. John Angel Tree committee would like to thank all the St. John members who donated to our Angel Tree project this year. Last week our church sent 9 bibles to incarcerated fathers in our area, gave 6 families Hy-Vee food vouchers, and delivered boxes of Christmas gifts to 8 families. You made 15 children and their families very happy this Christmas. Your gifts help keep the families in touch. Thank you for supporting Angel Tree in our church.

Put Jesus On Your Christmas List This Year!
The Stewardship committee would like to encourage everyone to take the typical amount that you would spend on a Christmas gift and put it in an envelope and then place it in the special box that is in the Narthex. Envelopes can be found next to the special box.  These gifts, which are above and beyond your regular giving, will go toward the general budget and be used to fulfill the many ministries of St. John!  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

  Prayer Shawl Ministry
We had Prayer Shawls and lap-robes in the Narthex last Sunday. About 12 went out to people in need of some care from our congregation.  Thank you for those of you who took them and spent some time with those people.  More are available and Kathy can help you get one during office hours. Now is also a good time to spend some time with your knitting, crocheting or quilting to  make a shawl or lap-robe for women and men because this is a perpetual project.
There is a book with patterns and information of shawl size and tips in the office, plus lots of yarn in the clothing room that can be used.
Advent Photo-a-Day Challenge!
Pause. Reflect. Prepare. Repeat. Advent is the season leading up to Christmas. It is 24 days of preparation. This year, we're inviting you to prepare by hitting the "pause" button... daily. Here's a practice for the Advent season that we hope is more meaningful and rewarding than it is hard: The Advent Photo-a-Day Challenge. First, find "Rethink Church" on Facebook or Twitter and like or follow them. Each day during the season of Advent, They will post a word for reflection. Take a moment (or several moments) of pause and reflection, then share a response to that word through a picture. Post your picture on social media with #RethinkChurch. Don't worry if you miss a day or two--there's no failing this challenge. We just hope to provide a gift of added meaning to this special season. In case you're someone who likes to plan ahead, here are the words for 2018: December 2 Promise, 3 Fulfill, 4 Time, 5 Justice, 6 Righteousness, 7 Live, 8 Called, 9 Hope, 10 Messenger, 11 Prepare, 12 Seek, 13 Delight, 14 Endure, 15 Offering, 16 Home, 17 Fear, 18 Grow, 19 Gladness, 20 Victory, 21 Renew, 22 Gather, 23 Great, 24 Peace, 25 Rejoice! You can follow what people are posting on social media or go to rethinkchurch.org.
