Put Jesus On Your Christmas List This Year!
The Stewardship committee would like to encourage everyone to take the typical amount that you would spend on a Christmas gift and put it in an envelope and then place it in the special box that is in the Narthex. Envelopes can be found next to the special box.  These gifts, which are above and beyond your regular giving, will go toward the general budget and be used to fulfill the many ministries of St. John!  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

  Prayer Shawl Ministry
We will have Prayer Shawls and lap-robes available this Sunday in the Narthex. Holidays can be a rough time of year for some of our members. If you know someone that needs special consideration because of illness, family death or some other life altering event we can show we care with a warm shawl and a visit. Each shawl is checked out in a logbook so we know the recipient and includes a card with a special prayer from the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Now is also a good time to spend some time with your knitting, crocheting or quilting to  make a shawl or lap-robe for women and men because this is a perpetual project.  They can picked up anytime by coming to the office where Kathy will help you.
There is a book with patterns and information of shawl size and tips in the office, plus lots of yarn in the clothing room that can be used.
Advent Photo-a-Day Challenge!
Pause. Reflect. Prepare. Repeat. Advent is the season leading up to Christmas. It is 24 days of preparation. This year, we're inviting you to prepare by hitting the "pause" button... daily. Here's a practice for the Advent season that we hope is more meaningful and rewarding than it is hard: The Advent Photo-a-Day Challenge. First, find "Rethink Church" on Facebook or Twitter and like or follow them. Each day during the season of Advent, They will post a word for reflection. Take a moment (or several moments) of pause and reflection, then share a response to that word through a picture. Post your picture on social media with #RethinkChurch. Don't worry if you miss a day or two--there's no failing this challenge. We just hope to provide a gift of added meaning to this special season. In case you're someone who likes to plan ahead, here are the words for 2018: December 2 Promise, 3 Fulfill, 4 Time, 5 Justice, 6 Righteousness, 7 Live, 8 Called, 9 Hope, 10 Messenger, 11 Prepare, 12 Seek, 13 Delight, 14 Endure, 15 Offering, 16 Home, 17 Fear, 18 Grow, 19 Gladness, 20 Victory, 21 Renew, 22 Gather, 23 Great, 24 Peace, 25 Rejoice! You can follow what people are posting on social media or go to rethinkchurch.org.

Volunteer Needed!

As a part of St. John's ministry to families who have lost a loved one, the Women's Ministry provides food and help for funeral lunches held at St. John. Arlene Thomas has been our monthly caller for the last year and has done a fine job but would like someone else to take over in 2019. What we need is a Funeral Lunch Coordinator who would find a volunteer from each month's list of "helpers" to be the Caller for that month. The Caller goes through the list to ask for salads, cakes & workers when there is a funeral lunch. The Caller then gives the list of volunteers to the office so a check in sheet can be made. The check in sheet lets those who are here know who is providing food & help. If you are interested in volunteering for 2019, please let the office know !
