Coming Soon
Stained glass instruction for those who have shown interest in making sun-catchers or jewelry out of the glass from the old stained glass windows.
This will be a volunteer project for those willing to make these items for sale to the congregation to  pay for the 150th Anniversary stained glass project estimated at $3,000-$4,000.  The items will give the congregation a piece of St. John's history in a beautiful remembrance as we strive to cover the cost.
An account will be set up soon if you have an interest in contributing to the project, but not in sun-catchers or jewelry. Thank you to Women's Ministry for a $500 contribution to start off this project.   If you have an interest in making stained glass items  or if you have expertise in stained glass art to share, contact Janet Petefish at petefishj@mchsi.com

Exciting news!
Rosie Baldus will be attending the Augsburg Youth Theology
Institute (AYTI) at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, July 8-13!
This is a week-long immersion experience where high school students get to study theological questions relevant in today's world while also learning more about community leadership for the common good. Please hold Rosie and all the other participants and staff in prayer for a meaningful week. Stay tuned for opportunities to hear about Rosie's learning when she gets back! For more information, you can visit the AYTI website: http://www.augsburg.edu/ayti/ or follow them on Facebook at facebook.com/augsburgYTI/
Those students who have finished the third year of our confirmation program are required to write personal faith statements to put on their display board for the Confirmation Fair on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. The writing of these faith statements will hopefully give the students an opportunity to reflect on what they have learned, what they believe, and how their faith will affect the way they live their daily life following Confirmation Sunday. The display boards will also contain some other information such as, reflections on their baptism, and their favorite service project. These faith statements are due Wednesday, September 26th in the Youth and Family office, but will require some work over the summer. So, parents - don't let your student wait until school starts in August to get started! Confirmation Sunday is October 14, 2018.

Fall Festival coming again this October
The council decided that we would have a Fall Festival again this year
sponsored by all Boards, so heads up, it's going to be great!
Now is the time to start getting those special items or talents together that can be shared on the silent auction.  This year a special feature will be three large sun-catchers made from the church's 100 year old stained glass.  This part of the auction will go toward the special stained glass reclamation project that we've started.   Other money will go toward special projects that we have coming up including preschool security, an audio -visual project and some other needed updates and maintenance.
So.... put on your thinking hats, come up with something special, handmade, a personal talent to share or just come ready to bid at the auction.  You are only limited by your creativity and a couple of rules:  no white elephant, used items or things inappropriate for a church.
 History and Records
Linda Klemesrud and I have taken on the project to preserve newspaper clippings, photos and other documents so that they will be here for another 100 years.  We will be there every other Wednesday this summer to preserve these items and we welcome some more help with that.
The next Wednesday will be August 1 from 9-11 a.m.
Change Your Life...Volunteer!
Bridging the generations for 46 years
The Foster Grandparent Program may be a perfect fit for you! FGPS is for
men and women age 55 years or better, who would like to volunteer to spend time with children. Volunteers are assigned to classrooms, preschool and daycare programs. There are volunteer opportunities in the counties of Chickasaw, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, and Mitchell. The program volunteers have great satisfaction knowing they are helping our local children and teachers/care givers by changing not only a child's life, but the FGPs as well.
If you would like more information on volunteering as a Foster Grandparent or have a group interested in learning more, please call Sarah Merrifield at 641-257-6327, or stop by the office at 624 North Main St. Charles City, IA and change your life forever!
