The two leading Republican candidates for mayor will debate the issues! How do they plan to grow the city's economy? Do they support the higher minimum wage, paid sick leave, calorie count requirements and other business regulations? Would they seek to roll any of them back?
Thank you John Calabrese Financial for hosting an incredible Summer Business After Hours for our fellow Chamber members.
The SI Chamber refined the format of its traditional, all-day, 18-hole Annual Richard B. Irwin Memorial Golf Outing to a shorter Twilight 9-Hole Golf Outing. The Chamber’s revamped outing took place on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Silver Lake Golf Course, followed by a casual cocktail party at the nearby Casa Belvedere, along with a buffet dinner and awards ceremony. Thank you to all our sponsors for making our outing a great success!
A valuable workshop was held on Monday, June 19 which provided local entrepreneurs and businesses with information on federal resources available to help them export, invest abroad and grow their markets.

Top 3 Reasons to Hire a Person with a Disability

1.  People with disabilities have an overall higher job retention rate making for a reliable employee.  When it comes to employee retention and reduced turnover costs, research has found that workers with disabilities are not “job hoppers.” A person with a disability tends to remain in their jobs longer than the general workforce. (Employers' attitudes toward persons with disabilities in the workforce: myths or realities?)

2.  Reasonable accommodations are affordable (and can benefit potential customers). Many businesses are eligible to receive certain tax credits that may aid in the hiring and accommodating workers with disabilities. The credits are awarded for expenses incurred in purchasing adaptive equipment for workers with disabilities, or may assist with covering the costs of any modifications needed to make the building accessible. Check out the different  types of tax credits and eligibility requirements here.

3. Increase of diversity in the workplace! Workers with and without disabilities both benefit from a diverse work setting. Person Centered Care Services’ Disability Ally Initiative focuses on adapting the world around people with disabilities to be more welcoming and accessible.
