Prayers and Support for the Alia Family of the Midlands
We ask the prayers of the people of this Diocese for the family of slain Forest Acres Police Officer, Gregory Alia. Alia was killed at Richland Mall in Forest Acres yesterday morning at 8:00am. Pray also for the cessation of violence in all hearts, that we may turn again to the love of Jesus Christ and live.

Columbia Episcopalian Sally Peek of Nana by Sally is holding a sale today and tomorrow to help support the Alia Family. Sally is a craftsman of fine bags and bow ties.  10% of the funds of all items purchased on Nana's online Etsy shop 10/1/15 and 10/2/15 will go directly to the Alia family. Several dozen Episcopalians took advantage of an opportunity from the Academy of Faith and Leadership at Luthern Seminary / Lenoir-Rhyne University in Columbia on Friday, September 25th. AFL sponsored a lecture by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Jewish and New Testament Scholar at   Vanderbilt University Divinity School, Department of Religious Studies, and Graduate Department of Religion. ECW Blog - From Your ECW President
Dear Friends, Ordinary Time is hard for me. I don't mean ordinary time in the usual sense, but this church season between the great feasts of Pentecost and Advent. Autumn seems to be the busiest time of year in my life, and during Ordinary Time there isn't always that loud, "mountaintop" story to divert my attention. It seems during this time I have to work twice as hard to maintain the importance my relationships with both God and the Church in the face of everything. Please read more...

 attended an altogether different kind of church.
Bishop Spong Speaks to a Crowd of More Than 200 at St. Luke's, Columbia
Another author event took place in our diocese last week on September 22nd. St. Luke's, Columbia hosted an event with Bishop John Shelby Spong. Noted as a "thoughtful and provocative speaker, Bishop Spong spoke to more than 200 people about the "radical center" and the evolution he believes Christianity must undergo in order to move into the future. Spong is the author of more than 20 books. More pictures from the event are available on the EDUSC Facebook Page.
World Mission Committee
The World Mission Committee met Sunday, September 27th at All Saints', Clinton to discuss the future of our ministry in Haiti and the projects EDUSC is involved in there. Celebrating all of our projects and partners, the Committee worked together to discern the focus of the Haiti ministry in the future. Be on the lookout for more news and photos!

Two Upcoming Medical Trip to Haiti - Priests Still Needed
Two upcoming medical trips to Haiti are being led by Dr. Harry Morse of Holy Trinity, Clemson. Anyone in shape to walk long, steep paths is able to help. No medical experience required. Even bishops can take blood pressure readings! The dates of the trips are October 31st - November 7th, 2015 and February 13th - 20th, 2016. Dr. Morse may still be seeking a priest to accompany the group on each trip. For more information, please contact Dr. Morse at hgmorse@gmail.com.
