E-News for May 22, 2019
From Our Pastor
This Sunday, May 27, we will be receiving a VERY IMPORTANT ANNUAL CONFERENCE OFFERING. I hope you will give generously! I realize some of our regular attenders may be out Sunday for the Memorial Day weekend. But you can make your contribution on Sunday, June 2 or anytime in our office prior to June 7.

In my opinion, this is one of the most significant Annual Conference offering we have ever received, because it benefits one of our smaller churches in Central Texas who is passionate about sharing Jesus! Their financial need is great!

Last February, Mooreville United Methodist Church lost its 108 year-old sanctuary to a fire . The cause of the fire is unknown, but what is clear is the determination of Mooreville UMC to remain focused on our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. It would have been easy to lose focus and neglect their ministry. But the day after the fire, this amazing church continued its weekly food ministry in the community. In an interview with local news outlets last February, Rev. Dennis Rejcek, pastor of Mooreville UMC  said, “We will focus on hope, and emphasize the fact that we will move on and build again. We are not going to let this stop our ministry.”

Thank you to those who will give generously to this worthy cause. Your gifts are greatly appreciated!  “Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (II Corinthians 9:7)

Thankful for a giving God,
Mike Alexander
Laity Summit at University of Texas at Arlington
You are invited and urged to attend the Laity Summit on the campus of UTA on June 9 th . It is for all Laity in the Central Texas Conference. It begins at 9 am and concludes at 3 pm.

The purpose is to energize and equip the lay leadership of our church to help lead the transformation taking place throughout our conference. You will hear stories from people whose lives were changed (even saved) through their relationship with Jesus and the church. We will share best practices on how laity can best partner with clergy to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and much more.

We want and need strong leaders in our congregation who are always positively involved in events at our church, in our community, in any of the vital ministries of our church. This event is free, but registration is required so that the conference can adequately prepare. A free box lunch is provided. Please register at www.ctcumc.org or call the church office and we can help you with that.
Project Transformation
New World UMC is proud to serve as a Partner Church for Project Transformation Central Texas again this summer.

What is Project Transformation?
An extension ministry of The United Methodist Church, PT is a summer literacy program for underserved children. College interns learn principles of leadership and ministry as they lead the reading programs hosted by local United Methodist Churches.

What does a Partner Church do?
As a Partner Church, we support the ministry with our prayers, by volunteering to read during the mornings of July 8-11, and by donating needed items for the program. There is also an opportunity for volunteers to bring dinners to the college interns as they live in Texas Wesleyan community for the summer. We are serving the Project Transformation program that is held at FUMC Bedford.

How can you help?
We are collecting donations of classroom and school supplies and new or like new children’s books. Similar to last year, we are collecting donations in a fun school spirit themed way! Tubs with different college names on them will be set up at the donation table. You put your donations in the tub for your favorite college & the college with the most donations will get recognized in worship. You can bring in your donations now through June 2.
(You can also sign up to volunteer!)

Try Wesley Group!
Sunday 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Room 28
When he founded the Methodist Church in 18 th Century England, John Wesley, assembled small groups to reach out, offer support and provide accountability and religious instruction to one another. This practice continues today in the Wesley Group. Wesley Group is a group of people who are looking for a closer connection to Christ. Each week they examine their relationship with Christ and how God is moving in their lives.

New Groups can form and meet on different days with leadership provided to them if Sunday does not work for you. You are invited to check out this group and do as Jesus suggested, “Come and see.” For more information, contact Sarah Cantrell 817-461-8727 or sjc0317@aol.com .
United Methodist Women
Safe Haven Care Kits
The UMW are currently collecting hygiene items to make personal care kits for Safe Haven, a domestic violence service provider. The kits will be delivered in 1-gallon zip-lock bags, so the items must be new, and small or travel-sized toiletries. The UMW will assemble the personal hygiene kits on Tuesday, May 28 at 9:30 am, in the Fellowship Hall.

As you travel this summer, please remember this is a continuing need. Donations can be left in the Fellowship Hall in the container marked UMW Care Kit Items.
Changes For Summer
School is out and the long, hot days of summer have already arrived. To help curtail the cost of air conditioning this summer, the staff will observe “summer hours” by closing the building on Fridays beginning June 7. Of course this will not apply to the week of Vacation Bible School scheduled for July 22-July 26.

B eginning June 5, we go to our every-other-week summer newsletter schedule. This means in June, "New World News" is going out on June 5 and 19 – in July the newsletter will be sent on July 3, July 17 and July 31 – finally in August, the newsletter will be issued on the 14 and 28. As always, we’ll post “New World News” on our website on the above dates. You can click  here  to read previous newsletters.

Finally, as your family vacations, please remember that the church’s bills continue all summer long. We encourage your support of the church by taking advantage of smart giving or automatic draft as we work to avoid the summer slump. Questions? Heather, 817-460-4212; heather@nwumc.org .
Help Our Youth By Donating Snacks
For Their Mission Trip
Our Youth are going to Port Lavaca for Mission Trip this year from June 16-22. Each group helps with supplies for the week and the cooks have requested that our church provide individually wrapped packages of crackers, cookies, popcorn, etc. Each day the students and adults make a lunch and get to pick 2 snack items to go in their lunch.

There will be a table with baskets in the Fellowship Hall to collect your donations. Thanks in advance for your help!

One small step for your kids...
one giant leap for God's Kingdom!
Blast off with Vacation Bible School this summer, July 22 - 26 from 9:00 - 12:00 each day. Children, 4 years old - 5th grade will be Voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God's power can take them. Each day they'll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them. Come join us! Invite your friends and neighbors! Click on the link below to register online.

Our theme verse will be:
"Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us."
Ephesians 3:20

VBS Volunteers Needed

Our Vacation Bible School is a day time event this year, and we are going to need lots of Adult Volunteers to help. We are expecting to have lots of children. We will need volunteers to walk the children to the different areas, for music, crafts, Bible story, science, snacks, & recreation. There will be a Sign up sheet in the Fellowship Hall for you to sign-up for the area you would like to help.

Graduation Sunday
Thank you to everyone who came out last Sunday and helped as we celebrated our graduating seniors.

To all the graduates – your New World family will be praying for you as you go out on your next adventure!
It’s here! It’s happening! My head is spinning, my heart swells and breaks 72 times a day. I’m laughing until I cry, crying until I’m laughing. I’m waking up in the middle of the night with songs from Winnie the Pooh, Pepper Ann, and Magical Mystery Tour , the volume on 13, booming in my head!
No, it’s not madness, not mid life crisis...IT’S HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION!!!!!
Everything we’ve done, every dream we’ve stoked, every tear we’ve shed or dried, EVERYTHING is coming to fruition. This kid has been prepped, prodded, prayed for, relentlessly. This is the closing of an 18 year long chapter. A new one is beginning soon...for all of us. What am I when I’m not Mommy anymore? Even writing this I’m sobbing. People who hear me say I’m having a bit of trouble, try to make me feel better. Please don’t.
I don’t want to feel different. I’m feeling THIS. This is how it feels! This is me feeling like the most blessed human on the planet. God gave me my kid. He knows my heart. He knew I needed to be that kid’s Mommy...and He let me...He led me...and it’s my excruciatingly beautiful honor to present her to her next chapter, and the world beyond the one under my wing.
So, I will be crying, snotty ugly cries. So will some of you.
I will be celebrating and laughing loudly, and probably obnoxiously. Hopefully, so will you. I think there will be a contagion of this for a few of us for the next couple of months. Pray for us. Pray for the students. Pray for the new chapters.
Pray there will always be a box of tissues within reach!!!

Blessings to our graduates!
