E-News for May 29, 2019
From Our Pastor
It’s hard to believe, but the fact is I’m about to begin my final month as your Senior Pastor. I want to share with you the preaching schedule for June. In order for me to close out my seven year pastorate with you, I will be preaching my final series in all three services.

I want to thank Rev. Erin Sloan Jackson for her excellent preaching in our 9:30 service since the RE-LAUNCH of our worship services last August 19. I’m grateful, as well, for the excellent preaching of Rev. Gena Anderson , filling in a number of Sundays for Pastor Erin.

We are all extremely thankful for the excellent and inspirational ministry of both our Associate Pastors. We are sad to see Rev. Gena leave our pastoral staff at the end of June. She will be preaching her last sermon at New World this Sunday, June 2, in the 9:30 worship service.  Please be sure to stop by the Fellowship Hall this Sunday, June 2, as we express our appreciation to Rev. Gena Anderson following each service, at 8:45, 10:30, and 12:00.  Pastor Gena will serve our church to the end of June. Gena is looking forward to spending more time with her family and pursue her ministry in other ways

Pastor Erin will be preaching in the 9:30 service on June 2, and 9 th . She will be closing out the series she created, “This Is My Story.”  I will be preaching in all three services on June 16, 23, and 30. The series is entitled, “This is the Church!”
June 16 th
“Our Church Can Be
A Messy Place!”
I Cor. 1:10-18
June 23 rd
“Our Church Can Change!
II Cor. 5:17-18; Ephesians 2:8-9
June 30 th
“Our Church Can Soar!”
Philippians 2:5-11
I hope you can attend for my final series. Some of these sermons might be less sermonic, and simply my sharing from my heart. I promise you this. I will share with HONESTY, PASSION, and GRATITUDE!

Sincerely,
Mike Alexander
PRAYER IS IMPORTANT IN THIS TIME OF
PASTORAL TRANSITION
There are so many things to be accomplished in the final month of your pastor’s ministry. This is true for your pastor and family, the PPR Committees of New World and Troy (Pastor Leslie’s current church), and a number of church members working hard to prepare events for your present pastor and your new pastor.  We all need your prayers!

The following statements are prayer suggestions as you pray each day for Pastor Mike and Kathy, and Pastor Leslie and John. We appreciate your prayers!

Please stop by the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, June 2 to thank Rev. Gena Alexander for all she's done for New World. There will be cards available to wish her well.
Laity Summit at University of Texas at Arlington
You are invited and urged to attend the Laity Summit on the campus of UTA on June 9. It is for all Laity in the Central Texas Conference. It begins at 9 am and concludes at 3 pm. All Laity welcome!
How You Can Support Project Transformation
Who’s got spirit?
As a Partner Church for Project Transformation Central Texas, we are collecting donations of any classroom and school supplies, and new or like new children’s books for Project Transformation. Similar to last year, we are collecting donations in a fun school spirit themed way! Tubs with different college names on them are out in the concourse. You put your donations in the tub for your favorite college & the college with the most donations will get recognized in worship. So far it looks like University of Texas or Texas Christian University might be in the lead. You can bring in your donations now through this Sunday, June 2.

What is Project Transformation?
Project Transformation is a transformational, low-cost summer literacy program for children in need of a little extra support. The daytime programs are held at local United Methodist Churches with college interns who are also learning about ministry.

How can I help?
As a Partner Church, we support the Project Transformation in 3 main ways:
  1. Donate items. We are collecting school supplies and children’s books in the concourse through this Sunday.
  2.  Volunteer your time. During the mornings of July 8-11 we need adult volunteers to come to FUMC Bedford to help children with reading. You can sign up today in the concourse to volunteer!
  3. Feed college kids. Volunteer groups are needed to bring dinners to the college interns staying at Texas Wesleyan University. To sign up, contact Rev. Erin for more information on how you or your Sunday school class can help.

Try Wesley Group!
Sunday 6:30 – 7:30 pm

When he founded the Methodist Church in 18 th Century England, John Wesley, assembled small groups to reach out, offer support and provide accountability and religious instruction to one another. This practice continues today in the Wesley Group. Wesley Group is a group of people who are looking for a closer connection to Christ. Each week they examine their relationship with Christ and how God is moving in their lives.

New Groups can form and meet on different days with leadership provided to them if Sunday does not work for you. You are invited to check out this group and do as Jesus suggested, “Come and see.” For more information, contact Sarah Cantrell 817-461-8727 or sjc0317@aol.com .

Help Our Youth By Donating Snacks
For Their Mission Trip
Our Youth are going to Port Lavaca for Mission Trip this year from June 16-22. Each group helps with supplies for the week and the cooks have requested that our church provide individually wrapped packages of crackers, cookies, popcorn, etc. Each day the students and adults make a lunch and get to pick 2 snack items to go in their lunch.

There will be a table with baskets in the Fellowship Hall to collect your donations. Thanks in advance for your help!

Does God still speak to His sons and daughters? Absolutely - it’s part of our birth right to hear from both Jesus and the Father. In fact, there are many times in life that we need encouragement, direction, and protection. There are also numerous decisions in life that reach beyond human capacity and reasoning. How do I develop a sensitivity to the direction and counsel of the Holy Spirit to handle various situations? Although I have fasted for many years, I keep discovering more and more my need to worship. Worship has a way of taking your eyes off of the human situation and focusing back on God. As you open with prayer in the morning, allow the Spirit to guide you into a gentle song or time of worship. You may say to yourself, “but I need to pray.” In those moments, there’s often a pressure that we place on ourselves as we feel a need to pray. However, worship allows us to release our burdens and also clears the air to hear him more freely.

While worshiping, be sure to proclaim Him as Lord of your life and then move forward with your prayers. In my morning prayers, I move through a time of consecration and appropriating the work of Christ. Afterwards, I can address my concerns and seek guidance for a particular situation.  Within that context, you may want to write your prayers . By writing your prayers, you allow God the opportunity to speak to certain areas of your life. As you pray through your written prayers, give God a chance to speak and then ask Him for a word of confirmation . Confirmation should be considered a vital part of any answers from Him and this is where the Word of God plays such a crucial role. Your time in the Word makes you sensitive to the direction and counsel of the Holy Spirit. For me personally, I need to get on my knees and meditate on scripture to strengthen my ability to hear from Him; it helps clear my mind . You can also use the concordance in the back of your bible and allow the Spirit to guide you to certain passages related to healing, marriage, a new calling, etc.

In summary, we all need to hear from God for a variety of reasons. As our Heavenly Father speaks, He will provide words of life that help carry us through any situation. Our time of praise, prayer, and meditating on the Word are a vital part of receiving a word from God.

Psalm 100: 4 (KJV)
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
