E-News for June 19, 2019
From Our Pastor
This morning I’ve been packing boxes of books in my office, and I’ve got a long way to go, with not a lot of time to finish the job. It’s not a lot of fun. Kathy and I have left churches we have loved and begun in new places 10 times. I think it gets a little tougher the older I get. But, as I’ve told other preachers, “This is what we signed up for.” It’s much easier to say that when I’m staying in my church.

So, this is my final pastor’s column as the Senior Pastor of New World UMC. I’m thinking I’ve probably written about 250 pastors columns in the last 7 years. I’ve written on many subjects; important church events, joys in worship the previous Sunday, exciting worship in services to come, putting Jesus first in the living of our lives, saying goodbye and hello to staff changes, and others too numerous to mention.

My ordination vows included serving where my Bishop appointed me, and I have always done that. I couldn’t have done that without Kathy always loving me and supporting my ministry. She never said, “I don’t want to move there.” She always had my back and assured me moving or staying was completely my decision. We have moved in all kinds of circumstances. She has always been by my side.

For some reason, most of the churches to which I’ve been appointed were hurting, struggling, divided, and in great need of a pastor. It’s a tremendous honor to be a pastor, and I want to thank you for letting me be yours. New World is a wonderful church, and you have a great future. I promise that you have a great new Senior Pastor in Rev. Leslie Byrd.  She has all the gifts necessary to lead you to a bright future. All she needs is your complete support!

I want to thank you for all the love and affirmation you’ve given to me and especially the support I received last Sunday in preaching all three services! Thank you for all you’ve given to Kathy, Susan, and I. We are looking forward to the next two Sundays.

I’m proud to be your pastor,
Mike Alexander

THIS SUNDAY
(after the 11:00 service)

Join Us For Lunch With Pastor Mike!
Words cannot express how thankful we are to Pastor Mike for his faithful service to New World for the past 7 years. This Sunday, after the 11:00 worship service we will gather together in Fellowship Hall for lunch and celebrate Pastor Mike’s ministry. Ballpark food will be served and everyone is encouraged to wear your Texas Rangers gear on Sunday in honor of Pastor Mike. There will be notecards available so that you can write a special message to wish him well on his new journey.
Volunteers Needed
New World is proud to be a partner church for Project Transformation Central Texas, a summer literacy camp for underserved children in our conference. As a Partner Church we support the program with our prayers, donations and volunteering to read with children.

Volunteers Needed: Project Transformation is looking for adult volunteers to read with kids  9:30am-12pm  July 8-11 at FUMC Bedford. To volunteer, contact Rev. Erin  erin@nwumc.org or sign up on the clipboard available during Connection time.

Thanks again!
Thank You, Blood Donors!

At our June 9th Blood Drive, 23 people were screened with only 1 deferral. Our 22 donors made a difference to 64 people who were saved or touched by our donations.  While this was one of our lightest drives in some time, we so appreciate all of you who donated—as do the number of people you were able to help!

Our last drive of the year will be October 13. Please mark your calendar now and plan to invite a friend to donate with you as we continue to love God by loving our neighbors in such a tangible way!
