E-News for September 11, 2019
From The Heart Of The Pastor
I am excited to share that we are introducing a new way for people to find out more about New World and take the opportunity to make a commitment to a faith community. So many people today join something and do not really know what that means. This new opportunity is called NEW@NEW WORLD.

Jesus Christ invited his disciples to build on a solid foundation, His church. The church is a place where God’s people make the commitment to pray, encourage one another and share hope, joy and peace, study and learn, grow deeper in their faith, and serve in the world. The church is by no means perfect – in fact we are about being perfected through Christ.

NEW@NEW WORLD will be offered once a quarter for those who are new to the church and the area and want to know more about this specific church and its ministries before making a commitment. It will be offered one Sunday morning a quarter from 10:45 – 12:30 in one of the Adult Classroom spaces. It will offer information, a time for questions, introduction to the staff, district, conference and the United Methodist Church, as well as a tour of the entire facilities plus information about how to discover your spiritual gifts.

At the end of the time together, people in attendance will be invited to pray throughout the next week about joining this great family of faith and then we will celebrate a GREAT DAY OF JOINING on the following Sunday morning at the service of their choice.

As we work on communicating events further in advance, you will begin to hear invitations to come on November 10 th, for the first NEW@NEW WORLD gathering and the upcoming GREAT DAY OF JOINING on November 17th. If someone attends NEW@NEW WORLD and finds they are not quite ready to make the commitment, that is perfectly okay. People may also join at any time during the year - please see Pastor Leslie or Erin for details .

Proud to be your Pastor,
Leslie
Faithful Focus Meetings Update
The staff of New World are hard at work for Jesus and want to let you know where we are in implementing some of the Faithful Focus ideas. The Faithful Focus Meetings in July rendered specific results. Five core themes emerged from the meetings: 1) PRAYING over all ministries of this great church and its reach into the world and for those who do not yet know Jesus. 2) DEEPENING OUR FAITH WALK – to go deeper in our walk through renewal, commitment, spiritual retreats, study, spiritual disciplines and discovering our spiritual gifts. 3) BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS through small groups and study groups. 4) REACHING BEYOND THE WALLS in mission and outreach in ways that physically make an impact. 5) MULTI-GENERATIONAL mentoring, moments, and events.

These Five core themes were then taken to Staff meetings to discuss how to implement and carry out three items by the beginning of the New Year. Through discussion, asking questions and surveying friends and people in ministry in other settings – we were looking for ways to be in ministry that is UNIQUE to New World and the community around us. We do not want to just be duplicating what other churches are doing. We are unique and we want to offer ministries unique to the heart and passion of this congregation. We also want to stay aligned with our VISION STATEMENT: “Love God, Love Neighbor and Make Disciples” to the best of our ability.

Three beginning steps that we are working to implement are: 1) Helping people go deeper in the faith by connecting with New World, 2) Small Group Kick-Off Pilot in January of 2020 and 3) a new class for parents of preschoolers during the week as a way to start new class opportunities. We invite you to pray for these ministries and stay tuned for more information!

Invitation to All Men
You are invited to meet with the Cross Trainers men’s group as we read and discuss John Ortberg’s book, Eternity Is Now in Session . This book will challenge us with several interesting questions.

What if we stopped thinking about eternal life as something we can only experience after we die?

What if we stopped thinking of Christians as people who profess beliefs about God and instead focused on becoming disciples who know God?

What if salvation isn’t mostly about getting you into heaven but about getting heaven into you?

Join us on Monday September 23, as we begin this study or any Monday morning from 6:30 to 7:30 am in the adult Sunday School wing for good Christian discussion and light refreshments. If you have questions, call or text Jim Hall on 817 229-6065.

Mission & Art Nights
Looking for an outlet to serve your neighbors, to be creative or to learn more about God? Consider volunteering for Salvation Army Mission and Art Nights!

Each Monday evening 6:00-8:00 pm, New World volunteers lead and participate in art workshops with the residents at the Arlington’s Salvation Army Family Shelter. It is a beautiful chance to serve our neighbors, have a relaxing and fun evening of volunteering, and to learn how God is at work in our neighborhood. The evening schedule includes set up time, a short devotional, a variety of art projects and clean up time. Volunteers are needed to help with both children and adults, and no artistic talent or experience is required. You may volunteer for one week or however many fit your schedule.

Painting 51 Homes in One Day!
Saturday, October 19!!

Habitat is partnering with the City of Ft. Worth to help families in need of assistance to do minor exterior rehabs and gives homes a fresh coat of paint. It brightens up neighborhoods and is a huge help to homeowners who are no longer able to do the work! It is amazing to see the transformation that occurs in a single day with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

New World is assembling a team of painters for this one day event, October 19. We need YOU! If you like to paint, caulk, scrape etc. we want YOU! We have jobs for every ability. If you can’t sign up to paint that day, you can contribute mightily by donating money for paint supplies. New World has pledged to raise $1,000 to help with this great project. There will be a total of 51 teams participating on that day . This is a one day project and an opportunity to work and fellowship with other New Worlders and make lots of new friends.

There will be a table to sign up in Fellowship Hall for the next few Sundays. You can also contribute at the table or send a check to the church marked “ Cowtown Brushup”. Questions: call Lynn Brink 817-265-6518. This is going to be Great!!

A Warm Wind Is Blowing Through New World Church!
Blood Drive is Coming October 13!
Mark your calendar for our next Blood Drive on Sunday, October 13, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Kathy Goodell and Mary Ann Kelly will be in Fellowship Hall September 22nd and 29th to help you make your appointment to donate. Sign up now to schedule the time that works best with your Sunday morning schedule.

Every donation has the potential to make a difference to three people whose very lives depend on a transfusion. What better way to give thanks for our own good health and love our neighbors than to give blood!

Verse of the Week
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” - Matthew 16:24-26
