eAlert:

Reminder: Deadline to Submit Grape Crush Data is January 10.

TO ALL WINERIES AND WINEGRAPE PROCESSORS

Don’t forget. The deadline to submit your 2024 Grape Crush Data for the annual Winegrape Crush Report is quickly approaching: Friday, January 10, 2025. The Winegrape Crush Report is an essential resource for understanding market trends and benchmarking within the winegrape industry. The report provides important information for growers and wineries in making decisions in the future.

Important Dates For Grape Crush Crop Year 2024

  • January 10, 2025: Questionnaire Due
  • February 10, 2025: Preliminary Report Released
  • March 10, 2025: Final Report Released

This year you may have noticed that additional information is being requested by National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) which produces the Crush Report for the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). This is because the Crush Report helps CDFA establish an accurate current grower list to conduct the Pierce’s Disease (PD) and Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter (GWSS) referendum this spring. Additional information about the referendum can be found below.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

PD/GWSS Referendum

The PD/GWSS assessment supports research, outreach programs, and other activities addressing Pierce’s disease, its vectors, and other serious grape pests and diseases. Every five years, a referendum is conducted to determine whether growers support continuing the assessment.

To facilitate the referendum, CDFA must compile an accurate list of growers who paid the assessment on grapes crushed during the 2024 season (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). Wineries and winegrape processors play a key role by submitting grower information.

What Information is Required?

It is being asked that the following information is reported:

  • Operation name, first and last name
  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) (optional but recommended)
  • Mailing address and telephone number
  • Connected purchases or assessment paid for each grower

Why Are EINs and Other Details Needed?

The grower information will be used exclusively for the PD/GWSS referendum. EINs help identify duplicate entities when growers sell grapes to multiple wineries, ensuring accurate representation and one ballot per entity. Addresses are mandatory to facilitate ballot mailing.
