Tuesday, June 10

8am PT/10am CT/11am ET

Don’t miss this chance to act together as WILPF US. Once you register, we’ll send you the talking points and call-in script to use for this Zoom event.

Let’s amplify our voices and raise our visibility to make a difference

The DISARM/End Wars COMMITTEE will host the Tactical Tuesday zoom to advocate for the current so-called “Norton Bill”, House bill HR-1888, the “Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Conversion Act of 2025.”

This bill would require the United States, beginning on the date that the president certifies to Congress that all countries possessing nuclear weapons have begun the verifiable and irreversible elimination of such weapons under the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (Treaty), to redirect resources that are being used for nuclear weapons programs to be used for addressing the climate crisis and human and infrastructure needs, such as housing, health care and restoring the environment.

Specifically, you will call your House member to ask them to cosponsor HR-1888.

  • One issue each week about which we all converge on Congress’ switchboards.
  • Background for thorough understanding.
  • Talking points to use in a phone script.
  • Time to make the calls
  • Report back on results/progress.
  • Extra bonus info – Great tips for organizing and outreach
  • All within 60 minutes~

With everything we care about under attack these days, many of us have been asking what WILPF US is doing about it all. Of course individual members are storming the Capital switchboard, calling their local legislators, and raising heck at whatever town meetings the elected officials are brave enough to hold. At WILPF US, the sheer number and speed of the threats has been challenging to plan around.

Call to Action

On Tuesday mornings in June, the Program Committee has agreed to initiate a one hour coordinated WILPF members Call to Action. We’ll meet via Zoom for a focused WILPF-framed calling effort. We’d like to have as many members as possible gather for a short and focused hour.

One Issue Each Week

Each week we’ll choose ONE issue that requires citizen advocacy for or against what’s going on in Congress. We’ll provide the background you need to speak about the chosen issue, talking points to make your pitch, and the phone number for the Congressional Offices. (We do not have the ability to connect you directly.) We’ll briefly discuss the messaging you need to use, the issue itself, and then provide a 10-15 minute window of quiet time while you make your phone calls using our “script and talking points”.  Finally we’ll share with each other the results of the phone calls we make, even if it’s just that you had to leave a message on a voice recording, or you didn’t get through at all.

On June 3rd, we stormed the Senate switchboard on the horrific omnibus budget bill the Republicans are trying to push through, with devastating cuts to programs working Americans and the most vulnerable among us depend on… just to offer up deep tax cuts to billionaires.

This is about having an impact and raising the visibility of WILPF as we advocate for the issues. It’s also about providing a sisterly solidarity for consistent targeted action and advocacy. From all over the US, WILPF members can join together in a united effort that centers our values and keeps us feeling empowered to make a difference.

Each week we’ll sweeten the pot with some tips for better organizing and outreach.

Look for an eAlert on the preceding Friday with the Join link AND the topic we’ll choose to be advocating for that week. So do join us for this one hour of united advocacy.
