I didn't come right out and say it Friday but yes like many other camps the one that I work at in South Carolina has decided to not open this summer. It was a very tough decision clouded by the fog of not being able to answer what if scenarios. But ultimately we couldn't really mitigate the risk of someone silently bringing the virus to camp and others getting sick.

As a family the prospect of basically erasing all of our summer plans was depressing. But we've rallied the troops and are still trying to piece some things together. Sophia got invited to join another unit on their trip to Sea Base this summer. There is also the possibility of her getting trained and hired to be a pool lifeguard in Charlotte.
My son Patrick had his favorite camp cancelled last week as well. Last summer he went to Camp Celo in western NC. This camp is themed as a farm home camp where the kids actually do some of the work. Strange he won't take the compost out at our house but would work the farm there?!
There is not much consolation in all of this but I'm lucky that I can fall back on going to work every day and just keep building my online stores and rehoming Scout collections. I've got a full board of projects broken down by category. As of this morning I've got about 45 bin boxes of patches scanned and somewhat ready to get listed. So I'll just keep making progress on all that.
I saw that the OA has put out an email with all the memorabilia for the 2020 NOAC. I guess they already made it and are trying to sell it at full price? The other possibility is they want to take preorders only and still make the stuff but that doesn't make much sense.

In Charlotte, North Carolina I have an antique mall booth that is filled with nothing but Scouting stuff. I call this location my clearance center because I've marked down everything to move. A lot of what you will find there are items that are too bulky to easily ship from an Internet store. The booth is located in The Sleepy Poet which is a well established antique mall on South Blvd in Charlotte. The mall is open 7-days/week year round. So the next time you are in the area come check it out.
