eBay Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter
Friday Morning Edition
Dec. 4, 2020

I had an interesting discussion yesterday with another eBay seller about what does December look like for patch sales.  Interestingly I'm seeing some big dealers running aggressive sales to bring in holiday sales. One side of it is that some people are home more over the holidays and have more time to surf online sales.  Others might have some bonus money coming in.  But who knows with the pandemic both of those factors might be up in the air if everyone has been home for months and unemployment is high.

The bread and butter of my eBay business is patches selling for less than $10.  If someone needs a patch or just likes it then it's a lot easier to make an impulse decision to buy it for less than 10 bucks.  So the formula that makes the most sense is have as many patches listed as possible in that price range.  Now with the fee structure adding another 10k patches in that range is a very good goal for 2021.
Boy Scout Memorabilia Auctions on eBay
Yesterday I had the chance to make someone's Christmas extra special.  A family connected to my troop came out to the warehouse. They are trying to recreate grandpa's Scouting uniform because one of his biggest regrets in life is that his childhood house burned down and he lost all his Scout stuff.  So we found a time period correct Eagle Medal and many of the other patches that would go on his shirt like troop number and position patches.

I have been humbled for sure!  I've spent the past few days going through and identifying my needs for my OA name/number flap collection.  Oh man have you ever dug in to see how many super tough issues there are where a lodge issued 1 flap and then folded?  I'm taking notes and making a list but this is going to be a years long challenge!

For my next run of auctions on Santeeswapper I'm blending some vintage OA activity patches with more SAPs.  I figure depending on your collecting interest this gives more people a reason to look. Meanwhile on ScoutPatchHQ I have a bunch of 1950s era stuff ending Sunday night including some camp pieces that have sparked a bidding war from North Carolina.
For all the Best Hobby Page fans I've got a pallet being delivered in the next few days with a resupply on some of the popular envelopes I carry.  I am also getting in a bunch of the large format portfolio binders.  Soon you will be able to buy extra pages for that product which will be something new on the website.
Have a great weekend,
