During the weeks of Lent we will learn many different ways Jesus prayed. In today’s lesson we hear about Jesus going off to pray alone. When do you pray? Do you pray alone or with others?
Mark 1: 35 (Jesus prayed alone)

(bags can be picked up outside the Church office, while quantities last)
The Lent in a Bag contains 6 small items to be used as symbols to focus individual, family or group meditations and conversations during the Season of Lent. There is no assigned order, although if you want your seeds to grow by Easter, plan on planting them early in Lent! Questions are intended to start conversations.

If our hearts are wrapped around our stuff, if we find our treasure in what is easily damaged, what becomes of our hearts when the stuff is destroyed?
|
|
Scripture:
Matthew 6: 19-21 (holding onto stuff) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
“We live in a world where all people seem to care about is gaining more and more stuff: more money, more clothes, more shoes, more video games, more candy, more, more, and more! But God says what really matters is different than that. If we become SO focused on getting more and more stuff while we’re here on earth, we’ll miss out on the ways we can use things we have to help people get to know how much God loves them and wants to spend forever with them.
It's not that having stuff is wrong, but if that’s all we focus on, we’re missing what God can do through what we already have.” (except from celebrationchurch.org)

What does your stuff make easy for you?
What does it make hard?
Is there a physical, tangible thing you really love, whose loss you would mourn, if it were stolen or destroyed?
Can you tell a story about what it is, and why it matters to you?

Prayer:
Let’s talk to God,
English:
Holy Spirit, thank you for loving me unconditionally.
You are patient, kind, and your love for me never stops.
Your love is stronger than the north winds, and bigger than the skies above.
The largest of storms cannot put out your love.
Help me to spread the power of your love and strength throughout the world.
May the flame of your love continue to glow within me, and may I awaken your joy and hope to everyone I meet.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
Swahili:
Amina
