Youth Activities from Heather
July 1 - Canada Day
Can you imagine having to secretly meet with your Christian friends to worship God? Can you imagine your Bible being taken away from you because someone doesn’t believe the same way you do? Can you imagine being put into jail because you are a Christian? Can you imagine someone burning down our Church because we follow the teachings of Jesus?

On July 1 st we celebrate Canada Day. We are reminded of how blessed we are to live in a country where we don't have to fear when expressing our faith . There are people in countries around the world that don’t have this freedom.

"I am Canadian, a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind."   (John Diefenbaker, House of Commons Debates, 1 July 1960)

In today’s message we will learn what it was like back in biblical times to be a Christian.
Peter In Jail

Bible Story -
Peter is freed from prison – (Acts 12)
True freedom comes from
Loving Jesus - Obeying Jesus

Peter truly loved Jesus. He told others about Him even when it got him in trouble. He even went to jail because he was telling others about Jesus.
The "Fish Symbol"

You've seen it on bumper stickers, t-shirts, and businesses, but what does that "Fish Symbol" mean? On this Break it Down, Kate explains the history of this fish.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for for the freedom that we enjoy in Canada. Thank you that we have freedom to speak what is on our minds, the freedom to be friends with anyone we want and the freedom to worship you. We pray for people around the world who do not have this freedom. We pray that they stay safe and find strength in knowing you are always with them.  Amen.

Hands and Hearts Craft Club
Materials needed:
Black paper
White glue
Coloured chalk or chalk pastels

Draw a simple Jesus fish on your black paper with some school glue and let it dry overnight.

After the glue is dry, use colored chalk to colour all over the paper (go crazy, the more colour the better). Blend the colors with your fingers and use the chalk sideways if you like.

After you are done colouring, you might need to moisten the end of your finger and gently clean the chalk off the glue.
