WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Sunday, September 19, join our “Power-Up Sunday” for the Blessing of the Backpacks, students and educators.
Tuesday, September 21, 6:30pm, “Power-up mid-week group”. More details will be available next week.
Sunday, September 26, please wear orange (or make an orange poster or wear an orange ribbon) to “Power-Up Sunday”.
We will remember and honour indigenous children who were take from their communities and families to residential schools. This Orange Shirt Day is also the first observance of a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For settler Christians in particular, this is a time when we can reflect on our role in colonialism and the residential school system, and our ongoing responsibility to make reparations.
Letter of Encouragement
Compassion Camp participants did an awesome job painting these rocks. To read the letter of encouragement they wrote click on the rocks.
Summer Food Bank Challenge
Thanks for all your donatations. We will be giving you an update with the totals next week.
Words are Powerful
Douglas Talks: Words are Powerful/Taming Your Tongue: Your words are powerful, and God wants us to use our words to build others up.

James 3 1-12
Click on the image for the Bible story.

Would you cook in a toilet? Um, eew, no! Or could you get apples from an orange tree, or chocolate milk from a pop machine? What James is saying in this passage from the Bible is that we can’t be acting like we love and worship God and turn around and badmouth our peers. We need to make sure our mouths are clean, meaning good things come out of them. We don’t eat poop (hopefully). So, let’s not let it come out of our mouths, either.
Crafts and Activities
Positive word possibilities. How many positive words or encouraging phrases can you think of? Write them on a piece of paper. Put the paper somewhere you will see it every day. It will also be a constant reminder to stop and think before you speak.
Quick to Hear
Slow to Speak
Slow to Anger

Prayer
Dear God,
Make my words and the thoughts be acceptable to you.
Keep me from speaking when what I say could get me in trouble.
Help me keep my words focused on praising You.
Fill my heart with your Word so that my tongue will speak your Truth in my conversations.
Help me speak words that build up others and not tear them down.
Amen
Snack - Apple, Peanut Butter Teeth
·       apple slices
·       peanut butter or cream cheese
(or your favourite sticky spread)
·       mini marshmallows
Remove the core from the apple and cut it into slices.
Place peanut butter or spread on one side of 2 pieces of the apple
Press the mini marshmallows into the spread to look like teeth.
For extra fun, add a fruit roll up or licorice “tongue” in.
