The CEYM is having a table at this Sunday, May 7th's Tough Tiger at Hampden Meadows School. They'll be there to get the word out about our church - and handing out reusable shopping bags (with the UCC message and our church's name), information about the life of our church, and granola/energy bars. Thanks to all who responded to the request for granola/energy bars, but they could do with some more. It's not too late to donate some - donations should be dropped off at the church office
by Friday, May 5th - or contact Andrea Bullard
[email protected].

'Membership Giving' donations
|
Last Sunday was UCC Celebration Sunday and included in the bulletin was a special ‘Membership Giving’ envelope. Dale talked about the importance of our relationship with the UCC and invited the congregation to make a donation to cover the $20 per capita fee that our church pays to the RI Conference UCC each year. If you weren't in church and would like to make a donation please make the check payable to 'BCCUCC' and mark the memo line 'per capita donation'. Donations can be mailed to the church or dropped in the offering plate on Sunday. Thank you.

The original building for the church was near Jenny’s Lane and was in extreme disrepair in 1737. Since it needed so much work and the population had settled mostly in the north section of town – including Rev. Peleg Heath – it was decided to move the building to the north. This created a great disturbance and the town was divided into two hostile camps – up-neck and down-neck. Joshua Bicknell helped to settle the debate by the gift of land on which the church is now located. While the building was being torn down Mr. Heath was on the “Lord’s business” in the Bristol Court House. He was taunted by the town for not being present while this was happening. This saga is the beginning of the end of Reverend Mr. Heath’s ministry……more to follow.
The ‘Did you know…’ historical segments are brought to you by the ‘3 Centuries and Beyond’ group.

Are you, or do you have in your family, a graduating high school senior? If so this announcement is for you! We will be hosting our annual Baccalaureate Service on Sunday, June 4th and it will be handled a little differently than in the past. There are three things you need to do: 1) RSVP to the church office by Sunday, May 21st ([email protected] or 246-0111); 2) get a copy of the questions for the graduate introductions from the office and return it; 3) don't worry about wearing a gown to church (regular church clothes will suffice). If you have any questions, talk with Dale ([email protected]). And Congratulations!
