This weekend at BCCUCC
27th Annual "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive"
This Saturday, May 11th, please place non-perishable, unexpired food in a bag by your mail box. The letter carriers will pick it up and deliver it to TapIn to stock their food pantry which serves hundreds of East Bay residents. Last year, this food drive collected 5,156 pounds of food through the generous help of the Barrington community.
New Member Sunday and UCC Sunday
This Sunday, May 12th is both UCC Sunday and also New Member Sunday when two people will become members as they officially join our church during the worship service. We look forward to welcoming them, and also guest preacher, Rev. Marilyn Kendrix, Transitional Conference Minister of RICUCC (see below). We hope that you can join us as we celebrate and welcome our newest members.
RI Conference Minister, Rev. Marilyn Kendrix, is coming to BCCUCC!
Rev. Marilyn Kendrix is coming to worship at BCCUCC this Sunday, May 12th . She was hired last summer to be the transitional conference minister and help shepherd the RI Conference, UCC, into our merger with the MA and CT Conferences. Marilyn will be our guest preacher in worship and has also offered to stay after coffee hour to talk with us about what is happening in the conference. She is especially interested in sharing with us the latest information on the merger. If you have any questions, or are just wondering how this merger could benefit us, you are invited to join her and Dale for this conversation at 11:30 am in the Library.
UCC Sunday Special Offering
May 12th is UCC Sunday. As well as welcoming new members we are celebrating our role in the United Church of Christ (UCC). As a member of the Rhode Island Conference of the UCC, we provide a $20 per person contribution to the Conference to support its ministries and outreach. This contribution is in addition to our usual funding called Our Church’s Wider Mission. We invite anyone who would like to support the conference’s work to contribute their $20 per capita dues (or a portion thereof) to participate in this special offering. Let’s support local RI mission! Special collection envelopes will be included in Sunday's bulletin. Donations may also be mailed to the church office. Please make checks payable to ‘BCCUCC’ and mark the memo line ‘Membership’. Thank you.
Coffee Hour in May - cups/mugs needed!
Our Mission and Justice Team is hosting coffee hour for the month of May. To honor God’s creation and reduce the amount of trash produced, they are serving hot beverages in REAL cups at coffee hour. Last Sunday they didn't have enough suitable cups (some that they used were hard to hold and not big enough) so they're inviting you to bring in any extra mugs you might like to donate to the church kitchen and leave them off at the coffee hour table. Thank you.
Letter Writing Campaign
Another way that the Mission and Justice Team is honoring creation this month is to organize a letter writing campaign. This Sunday, May 12th during coffee hour, congregation members are invited to write letters to our Congressional Delegation concerning climate change. Pre-printed letters have been prepared for you to sign and add additional comments should you wish. Learn more.
Last chance to bring in supplies for Jubilation Sunday!
We have been collecting sea shells, fake flowers, rocks, feathers, sticks/drift wood, and sea glass to make a mandala at Jubilation Sunday’s worship service on May 19 (see later).  This Sunday, May 12th is the deadline for bringing in these items and putting them in the collection basket in Fellowship Hall. Thanks to everyone who donated items. We look forward to creating the mandala! Questions? Contact Andrea at  or Brendan at
Youth Group
The youth group meets this Sunday evening, May 12th from 5 - 7 pm in Room 9. All youth in Grades 6-12 are welcome.
There's a place for you at BCCUCC...
Please consider joining a ministry team this year
Our ministry teams have openings for the upcoming year and we ask that you consider joining one that interests you. Most teams meet only once a month, or even less!
At this link is a document with a list of the ministry teams, a brief summary of what they do, and all of the openings beginning July 2019. Please take a look, and contact any Membership Team member (listed on the document), or email Elizabeth Azevedo at with questions or to volunteer. The document together with response cards will also be included in the Sunday bulletins thru this Sunday, May 12th. The Membership Team looks forward to hearing from you.

Jubilation Sunday
Please join us on Sunday, May 19th for Jubilation Sunday! This is the time of year when we celebrate our children and our church school programs. The theme is “One Body”, and we will gather for worship in Fellowship Hall at 10 am to share what it means to be the body of Christ. Please help us explore this concept through prayer and meditation as we create our very own mandala (“…a graphic symbol of the universe”). This will be a fun and reflective service with a special treat at coffee hour!
