Kim Cordova Special Invitation to Sun Valley

Online Licensing Renewal

The Bar’s licensing renewal period began on Monday, June 1st. To ensure a smooth and efficient renewal process, please take a few minutes to complete the following:

  1. Verify your email address. Confirm that your preferred email address on file is current and accurate. Important notices, confirmations, and renewal-related communications are sent via email.
  2. Add a back up email address. You may want to consider providing a secondary email address which allows for back up communication in case you lose access to your preferred email. If you are currently using a law school email, please add a backup address as your school account may become inactive.
  3. Allow Bar emails. Add licensing@utahbar.org to your safe senders list so you receive all renewal notifications and account recovery messages.

Please log in to your online practice portal to confirm your preferred email address and to make any necessary updates or additions to your contact information.

License renewal and fees are due July 1 and will be late August 1. If renewal is not complete and payment is not received by September 1, your license will be suspended.

When renewing your Bar license this year, consider joining a section. Law sections provide valuable opportunities to:

  • Stay informed about developments in your practice area
  • Connect with colleagues and subject matter experts
  • Participate in continuing legal education and events
  • Contribute to discussions that help shape the profession

Whether you're looking to deepen your expertise, expand your network, or get more involved in the legal community, there's a section for you.

Appointments & Vacancies

Gov. Spencer J. Cox has announced the appointments of Jay T. Jorgensen and Stephen P. Dent to serve on the Utah Supreme Court.

The appointments follow legislation passed earlier this year expanding the Utah Supreme Court from five to seven justices. The two new seats were created as part of the state’s ongoing work to support the judiciary and ensure the Court can continue to provide careful, timely review in cases of statewide importance.

Two New Judicial Openings

The Utah Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications for two newly created positions on the Utah Court of Appeals.

Applicants are required to submit:

  • A completed application form;
  • A legal writing sample of no more than 10 pages (excerpts permitted); and
  • A two-page essay describing their judicial philosophy and approach to deciding cases.

The essay should address the applicant’s interpretation of constitutional and statutory text, the role of precedent, the use of historical and contextual sources, and the extent to which broader policy considerations should influence judicial decision-making.

Deadline: July 6, 2026
