Upcoming Spring Convention

We present our Spring Convention – Mid-Year Bar Convention again this year. We hope that you will plan to join us!

Please register early and book your lodging soon. Registration will open mid-January 2025. We will offer all of your live MCLE credits for the compliance year, including one hour of ethics and one hour of professionalism credit.


We will also feature a golf tournament and a pickleball tournament! CLE will include sessions on well-being, sustaining a lengthy and satisfying practice, practice tips for working in our rural districts, and conversations with our bench. Dynamic and meaningful conversation and opportunities to network will be found … so we hope you will be there, too!

Seeking Applications for Spring Convention Awards

The Board of Bar Commissioners is seeking applications for three Bar awards to be given at the 2025 Spring Convention.


These awards honor publicly those whose professionalism, public service, and public dedication have significantly enhanced the administration of justice, the delivery of legal services, and the improvement of the profession.


Please submit your nomination for a 2025 Spring Convention Award no later than Friday, January 31, 2025.


Use the Award Form to propose your candidate in the following categories:


Dorathy Merrill Brothers Award – For the Advancement of Women in the Legal Profession.


Raymond S. Uno Award – For the Advancement of Minorities in the Legal Profession.


The Utah Legal Well-Being Impact Award – For contributions to the mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being of members of the Utah legal community.


The Utah State Bar strives to recognize those who have had singular impact on the profession and the public. We appreciate your thoughtful nominations

Only Six Months Away From Deadline


The Utah Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal Education would like to wish you a Happy New Year filled with joy and good health.


If you are making any New Year’s resolutions, please consider adding CLE credits to your To-Do list.

If you have completed the 12 credits required, you may now pay your compliance fee online through the Utah Bar Practice Portal. If you would like a copy of your transcript for future reference, print the PDF before paying.


To complete the MCLE Compliance process, please login to your Member Dashboard and pay the required $10 filing fee.

Once the filing fee has been paid, you will be MCLE compliant, and you will NOT be required to file any additional information or Certificate of Compliance for the 2025 reporting period.



Once you have paid the $10 compliance fee, that will be the final step of complying. You will not need to submit the Certificate of Compliance.

Nominations for Bar Commissioner Are Open


Nominations to the office of Bar Commissioner are hereby solicited for:


  • One member from the Third Division (Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele Counties),
  • One member from the Second Division (Davis, Morgan, and Weber Counties), and
  • One member from the Fifth Division (Beaver, Iron, and Washington Counties).


Bar Commissioners serve a three-year term. Terms will begin in July 2025. To be eligible for the office of Commissioner from a division, the nominee’s business mailing address must be in that division as shown by the records of the Bar.


Applicants must be nominated by a written petition of 10 or more members of the Bar in good standing whose business mailing addresses are in the division from which the election is to be held. Nominating petitions are available here.


Completed petitions must be submitted to Christy Abad (cabad@utahbar.org), Executive Assistant, no later than February 3, 2025, by 5:00 p.m.

District Court Judge Vacancy


Applications are now being accepted for the position of district court judge of the Second District Court. This position results from the retirement of Judge Noel Hyde, July 1, 2025. Deadline to apply: Feb. 3, 2025.
