SJV Lenten Food Drive

Lent is a perfect time for us to open our hearts wide. Non-perishable food items are needed! With the goal of stocking our own SJV Food Pantry (an Evangelism/Outreach effort to help community members as needed), there are plastic bins in the entrance area of the parish hall for your donated items this Lent. Ideas: canned goods, dry beans, rice, pastas, cereals, Hamburger Helper, etc.

Those wishing to donate monetarily can do so by notating the Benevolence Fund on checks, in the memo line. Find a basket in the same area as the bins.

Thank you for your participation!

"That's a GOOD Question!"

Has Been Rescheduled!

Do you have friends or family interested in learning about the Catholic Church, why we do things, and how we are different from "other churches?"

We have designed a program, coordinated by the Evangelism Committee, that will take place on Thursday, April 20 (RESCHEDULED!), from about 6:30 to 8:00pm, to which ALL are welcome! There will be a brief introduction and overview of the Church and SJV, and then a time for Q&A.

We will continue advertising online over the next few weeks for folks to come have their wonderings answered. Invite friends and family. Direct them to our Facebook Page (not the SJV Group), as well as the Events page on our website (click here). No RSVP is needed, but folks can reach out by phone or email if there are questions, and will be directed to the right person.

SJV Homeschool News

Current News: The homeschool SJV moms and our children have been attending noon Mass on Mondays, and Father has been providing us with “Children’s Adoration” beginning at 11:30 during Lent (there are two more Mondays). This has been such a wonderful way to teach our littles about Adoration and being still! It is a wonderful time for fellowship afterwards as we pack lunches and play for an hour or so.

See this The Loop (daily Catholic newsletter) article about some kiddos in Virginia doing the same: Loop Article

(submitted by Corri Birch)

Plans for the summer: Homeschool parents are hoping to start a homeschool co-op on Thursday mornings beginning in August. They are looking for those who are able to share their talents as teachers or "guest" teachers for art, PE, choir, science, sewing, and writing. Please speak to Karroline Franklin.

Your "Junk" is Another's "Treasure!"

Now seeking donations through April 17 for the Antique Alley Churchwide Yard Sale!

As you start spring cleaning, SJV sale organizers (Jessican Kinler and friends) hope you will have some donations for the sale on Friday, April 21, from 7:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday, April 22, from 7:00am to 2:00pm. Please drop donations off in the church (front building) starting now and by the April 17 deadline so there is time to price everything. Needed are items in good/working condition without prices (organizers will price everything). When you drop your items off, please do so neatly and look for an area for items not yet priced.

Also, if anyone would like to volunteer to come for a hour or two during the garage sale, the help will be appreciated. There will also be a need for help setting up before and taking down afterwards. Organizers are still in the early planning stage. Talk to Jessica if you have questions.

The Messages of Our Lady Queen of Peace

Evening of Prayer

Testimony about Medjugorje

Last week at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Taunton, Massachusetts, at an evening hosted by Irish native, Fr. Edward A Murphy, Ivan Dragicevic from Medjugorje gave testimony about messages received from Our Blessed Mother.

Elizabeth Victory states, "After mass, about two hours into the video, Ivan teaches and shares what Our Lady did and said this evening. He gives a longer talk than we generally see/hear, about 40 minutes. You will learn A LOT from this particular evening School of Prayer!"

Things to Do/Reminders

  • Support the The Bishop's Appeal 2023! Your gift to the Bishop's Appeal makes possible crucial support to current parishes and developing communities, clergy, seminarians and the faithful. Thank you for your support of our growing Ordinariate! Give here.

  • Submit your CIY questions to Loraine Pittenger and Darrel Petri, who lead a monthly Q&A (on the first Saturday of the month after the 5:00pm Vigil Mass) for any interested CIY participants. The next meeting is Saturday, April 1. Email them to: Loraine (loraine.pittenger@yahoo.com) and Darrel (deacondp@live.com) a week or so before the Q&A meeting dates so answers can be prepared.

  • While our Parish Hall is used as our worship space, the Blessed Sacrament will be present there at most all times, as indicated by a lit candle similar to the above. Please be reverent and acknowledge the presence of Jesus when you are in the Parish Hall.

  • The SJV Benevolence Fund helps local families or parishioners in immediate need, by providing gift cards for groceries or a local hotel, for example. If you would like to contribute to this fund, please make a notation, "Benevolence Fund" on your check or on an envelope with cash. This may be placed in the offering basket. Thank you.

  • If you would like to to check out a book from the library, see Jenny Fyn after Masses. You may also talk to Jenny if you'd like to make a donation to the library (book or monetary). Her contact information is (email jennericfyn@yahoo.com or text 682-283-5778).

  • Interested in hosting an exchange student or finding out more about the opportunity? Contact Sherri Meyer or click here to find out more about Aspect Foundation.

  • Fr. Scott is interested in your early SJV stories -- about how SJV has come to be. As he said in a November article, "A few of our congregation have either been here from the first or came soon after that first meeting of St John Vianney Catholic Church. I was not present, so I would ask for the stories of those who did great things to make this church a reality. I would like to include all their stories here in these emails, so please share!" Please email Jenifer Petri at iwu22@msn.com with your story or stories. Your parish family will be interested and this will be a valuable historical documentation for future SJV generations.

Walking in the Footsteps

of Jesus with Fr. Scott

Would you like to walk where Jesus walked in the Land that is called Holy, Israel? Join Fr. Scott and Stephanie Wooten, and parish members and friends, on a 10-day Catholic Pilgrimage to the Holy Land December 4-13.

Join us Sunday, May 7, after Mass for our next preparation meeting, which should last about an hour. We are talking about the 4th and 5th day sites we will be visiting, which include Mt. Tabor, Nazareth, Cana, Caesarea Phillipi, and Caesarea by the Sea. ALL are welcome at any meeting, even if you are new to the group, still finding out before deciding, or just want to learn more about the Holy Sites in Israel. Invite friends! SJV being a small parish, we welcome friends and family from anywhere!

If you would like information, or to be put on an email list of interested parishioners/friends, email Jen and Darrel Petri at iwu22@msn.com. We will keep you updated on details, costs, itinerary, and preparation meeting dates. Mark your calendars and invite friends to join you!
