Please Come Each Sunday
I want to thank all of you who stayed after Sunday Mass for my presentation on the Eucharistic Congress. I am afraid it was not all I wanted it to be, but I do believe when you have a spiritual experience, it is difficult to organize everything, and it does not help when all electronics were working against me!
I would like to invite the parish to experience a bit of what I saw in Indianapolis. The next month of Sundays we will be watching the talks we saw at the congress, with discussion to follow. These speakers are far more eloquent than I, and their talks are usually shorter than 30 minutes each. We will see one per Sunday.
I am asking for you and your family to be present to hear these inspired talks. I feel it is of utmost importance that we all hear and respond to God’s calling through this remarkable event.
Fr Scott

Get Involved
A Message from Fr Scott
There are many types of churches. The Revelation to John does a wonderful job in defining them (Word of God Himself…of course it is wonderful!). John is writing to several churches, and they are us, so we need to pay attention to his admonishments.
He starts with Ephesus, and praises them for their endurance, but they have lost the love they once had. This is the faithful church that still preaches the Gospel but have become jaded and closed. Cliques form, and visitors are obliged to stay on the outside. Are you and your church focused on bringing outsiders to Christ? Will you give them a place at the table? Greeting and assimilation are critical aspects of evangelism.
Next, Smyrna. John tells them they are poor but rich. This is the church that has little, but they have each other. This is the church family everyone wants; this is the church everyone wants to find. But John tells them to be prepared, as the devil sees them, and is about to make their lives harder. Do you have a great church? Be ready, as the devil has you in his crosshairs. Be alert and know when the evil one is trying to tear you apart.
Next is the church of Pergamum. John says this is a good church, that is in a tough area. But he has a few things against them. They have allowed false teachers in their midst. The Word of God is not up for debate or vote. Even though it is difficult, we must not allow those in our midst who are swayed by the winds of society to spread their version of the gospel. This is hard because these are friends, but friends don’t let friends descend to hell. The church in Thyatira is in the same boat, and we will find many churches in this trouble. Preach the Gospel and never deviate.
Next is the church of Sardis. This church is a reclining church. The one that was founded decades ago and built up a nice facility and maybe even an endowment. They have no need to really work, so they fall into acedia. Prayer fails, true worship is long gone, they are a club of sorts, and they will die in time. Revival is necessary, one as stark as the electric paddles to start a heart attack victim’s heart. Churches that are declining, losing their numbers and their youth, must pay attention -- it may be time for a shock to the system.
Next is the church of Philadelphia. This is a vibrant church that is growing and rich in baptisms and conversions. God says that He has opened a door for them that no one can shut. God sends graces to these churches that are more powerful than any power broker on this planet. For these churches nothing is impossible, and others marvel at what they achieve. But the true secret is something they know: they did not do these works, God was with them at every turn. How do we get to this church? Keep God’s name and His Word.
Finally, we have the church at Laodicea. This is the church that God sees as lukewarm. This is the church that should scare us the most. How do we know that we are lukewarm? Cold we know, as it stings; heat we know, as it burns. Lukewarm we just exist in. Fruits: baptisms, confirmations, charitable works, charitable giving… all the things that we can count, they are usually listed on some church record -- they are real things that too many churches ignore. Be honest with yourself.
Churches are complicated. But at the baseline they are faithful people. Get active, volunteer, do your part to bring the lost to Christ. How many volunteer positions go unfilled in your church? Are you lacking God’s love, or finding your faith lukewarm? Get involved! I know my church has many volunteer roles that simply go unfilled. Get involved and make certain God never tells your church that He has something against it!

Let Us Welcome
Our Visitors and New Members!
We have had many new and repeat visitors since our church remodel and consecration. Please continue to welcome, and direct them to the Welcome Desk in the office area. Please also keep the area clear after Saturday and Sunday Masses so that visitors may have access to the desk as well as to Fr Scott.
For those interested in an application to join the church, there are blank forms available on the black shelving in the office. Just ask a greeter to get a parish form and an Ordinariate form for the visitor to look over and complete as they wish. Thank you!

A Message from Champion Shrine's
Shepherd Project
Last year May - October, thousands joined the National Shrine as we prayed for each Bishop by name across the U.S. through the Shepherd Project.
This year we again pray for our Bishops in Wisconsin (where the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion is located) and continue across the United States and U.S. territories until each Bishop and his Diocese is prayed for. We have great confidence that our Blessed Mother will intercede for us and that our Lord hears our prayers for our Nation's Shepherds.
On the grounds of the National Shrine, a candle will be lit for our Shepherds in the Apparition Oratory and each day's Bishop will be prayed for during daily Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Note: Bishop Olson will be prayed for on September 13 and Bishop Lopes will be prayed for on October 29.
