"Conflict Mediation Skills for Our Young People" Bruce Allyn GPHS 1975
Bruce will share his latest initiative to provide no-cost training programs for ages 13-21, our first "digital natives" raised with smart phones and social media. The program develops four capacities critical for mediation: focused attention, self-regulation, creative imagination and empathy. The program integrates the latest insights from cognitive neuroscience with Bruce's own personal mediation experience up-close with peace-makers and pariahs, from Mikhail Gorbachev to the KGB, Fidel Castro, Muammar Gaddafi to Putin. Bruce says that coming to Rotary has been a special pleasure since 1975 when he was first on the program with his mom and dad in the front row, invited by a man who had great influence in his life--Marty Bauer (who, as he says, "encouraged me to consider going back East for college to places I'd never heard of before! And this all led to a wonderful life for which I am so grateful--and Grants Pass is still always home. https://www.pon.harvard.edu/faculty/bruce-allyn/
