2021-2022 Rotary Year - President Ann Rusk & friend
(even 'possums grow bigger!)

September 1, 2021

Someone took a bunch of months out of the year and wow - we are now in September. I mean, gosh, it was May a few hours ago. The good news is that it is getting cooler. This summer has been less than wonderful. There have been some good moments and I'm sure many people have some fond memories, but on the whole - we could do without most of what transpired over the last few months. Now school is starting again. Let's offer a cheer to teachers and administrators and others who work so hard to make life good for our children.
Oh, and did I mention that there are hundreds of pumpkins for sale and Halloween candy is available in most retail locations. (Santa says there are 117 "sleeps" before Christmas as of August 19, 2021.)

You can read more about the foundation by clicking their logo.
Today Kate Dwyer, executive director of the Fourway Community Foundation, will talk about the organization's history and its future. She will highlight some of the organizations that have received grants this year. She also has a very exciting announcement to make. YOU are all going to be the first to hear this wonderful news. Hint: It has to do with this year's Louis Schultz award.

Now I want to talk about Kate herself. She is extremely talented and is the kind of person who posts in Facebook during a scary fire separating the Illinois Valley from Grants Pass, "If someone is stuck this side of the fire, I do have one more snuggly bed available." She brings food to community neighbors during snowstorms when people can't go anywhere. Below you can see some of her magical talents. Beside having an enviable garden full of veggies, she has tons of flowers. She also painted flowers on closet doors. And in the winter she makes felted wool booties for her family. She is the kind of person who is perfect for a community foundation.

Thoughts to Ponder
Labor Day will occur between this meeting and our next meeting.
This is a "Labor Day" quote.
Labor day also means I can't wear white anymore. I grew up with the fashion rule white was only okay from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Anyone else remember that?
