Camp Roar: The St. John's 2019 Adventure Camp attendees and volunteers
Connect to God
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 NIV

We had our Annual Summer Adventure Camp for kids last July 29 through August 2 and we had a total participation of 70 campers, CIT’s & volunteers (35 kids, 13 teens/youth, 22 adult volunteers). Yes, camps do require a good number of volunteers to make the program run and effectual. Praise the Lord for the success of the camp! Parents and volunteers have shared encouraging feedback.  Here are some of them.

I am so grateful for the parents of our kids and for church members who have supported St. John’s ministry to children all through the years. Some of our camp staff have volunteered for over 10 years and have seen St. John’s kids grow up. One of the rewards for the volunteers is seeing these kids continue coming to church. I’m reminded of the encouragement of the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth, “your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Cor. 15:58). I pray that the service of our volunteers will develop lasting faith in our kids as well as for themselves.

I believe faith formation begins in the home and continues in the church. For this reason, St. John’s Children’s Ministry is committed to journey alongside with parents in the development of their child’s faith nurtured with the love and care of our community of believers. I trust that every child that comes to the doors of St. John’s is welcomed and is seen as part of God’s kingdom. Your support in this ministry is vital.

October 19 is the date you want to have noted on your calendar for the upcoming St. John’s Harvest Party. Join your fellow parishioners in a festive gathering of exceptionally tasty food, a well curated bar and a chance to celebrate the season with this special community. Tickets are $75 and will be on sale soon.

Interested to serve the youngest members of our parish?  Come to our Nursery & Sunday School Teachers/Volunteers Training on August 25, 11:30am-12:3opm in the Fireside Room. This is an opportunity for you to serve in our faith community. For more information, email Sandra Pathik, Director of Children’s Ministry.

Own a St. John’s pew. We have three 7’1” pews and three 7’4” pews available in exchange for a donation to the church ($200 or more per pew recommended). Please speak with Rev. Chris or contact the church office if interested. The church cannot provide delivery.

Leave legacy at St. John’s. An area church has received two homes this year from parishioners who left their homes to the church in their estates. One of the homes will be used as much needed housing for their associate priest. St. John’s would benefit greatly from such a gift. A home is just one of many ways to include St. John’s in your estate plan. St. John’s Cornerstone Society honors all those who have included in their planned giving. Please contact Rev. Chris or Emily McFarland, our Director of Stewardship, to discuss leaving a legacy gift to St. John’s.

Tennis Fest 2019 . . . Love & Serve!  All tennis players, young and old, are enthusiastically invited to the beautiful Lagunitas Club for an exciting afternoon of tennis and fun on Sunday, October 20. More information to come.

A big thank you to all who helped to put on an amazing Back-to-School BBQ for current and former Gilead House families. Thanks to your work, these families in crisis felt surrounded by community and love as the school year begins. Reach out to Rev. Ginger to learn how you can get more involved at Gilead House!

Every first Sunday of the month at the coffee hour after our 10am service, St. John’s parishioners make brown bag meals for our homeless and hungry neighbors. These meals are distributed through St. Vincent De Paul. Please let Rev. Ginger know if you’d like to join our great leadership team (shopping, set up, delivery). This is a great project for an adult or teen!

St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room: Serve hot meals and share conversation with those in need of food and community. Saturdays from 10:30am-1pm. To learn more, contact Becky Hlesbasko via email or phone, 415-846-1589 for details.
