FIVE THINGS WE'VE LEARNED ABOUT LOREN:

As we get ready to welcome our new rector, we thought we’d skip the formal bio for a moment and get to know her through a few more personal questions…

What's guaranteed to make her laugh?

"A Muppet Christmas Carol" She says it doesn’t matter how many times she watches it — she’ll always crack up when Rizzo says, “Light the lamp, not the rat!” (She also admits she cries every year when she watches it.)

What is she looking forward to in Indianapolis?

Meeting all of you! And there’s another pretty great perk: the zoo. Her boys love animals, especially her oldest, who is a big fan of penguins. Being able to visit his “penguin friends” anytime will be a gift.

What is she currently reading?

"Theo of Golden," which is reminding her quite a bit of her time in Savannah.

(Wait…What?!) What is one thing you wouldn't guess about Loren?

One thing you probably wouldn’t guess about Loren: she was part of the halftime show at Super Bowl XXXVI.

HELP A BELOVED PARISHIONER REBUILD

For many years, Rachel Brosius has been a beloved member of the St. Paul’s community and our resident florist — bringing beauty and care to countless worship services, parish occasions, and our campus. Now, Rachel and her husband are facing an unimaginable loss. Flooding engulfed their home and they are facing the difficult task of replacing nearly everything they owned, while also grieving the loss of treasured belongings whose meaning cannot be replaced. As a community that has been blessed by Rachel’s years of service and presence among us, we have an opportunity to surround her and her family with care during this difficult time. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Catherine Meeks, a national leader in racial healing and social justice, to St. Paul’s. Dr. Meeks will preach at the 10 a.m. service on September 6, followed by a reception and book signing in the Lilly Room. Hear her reflections on healing racial divisions and becoming the beloved community God calls us to be.

What's happening just beyond the walls of St. Paul's?

St. Paul’s parishioners Bill Cummings and George Slenski will bring us up to date on what’s happening just beyond our walls — from our on-campus beehive, to the native plants taking root across our campus, and the beer being brewed by our very own "St. Arnold’s Brew Crew." Come learn how these projects are helping St. Paul’s care for creation, build community and make our campus a place where good things are growing! The cost of lunch is $10. SEASON OF CREATION

Living Water

Begin the Season of Creation in prayer with Christians around the world during a virtual prayer service for Creation Day / Feast of Creation on Tuesday, September 1, at 9 a.m. EDT. St. Paul’s will observe the Season of Creation starting September 13. Join us in deepening our gratitude for God’s gift of creation and the call to care for our common home. This year's "Living Water" theme will flow through worship, prayer, preaching and formation. NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE CIRCLE

Sunday, September 13, 1-2:30 p.m., Room 101 (first floor, Parish Ctr. bldg.)

Join for an informal get-together with parishioner Sally Flint to learn about the Native American flute and how to play it. Stories will be shared about paths to discovery of the flute and its music. A Native American-style flute in the key of F# minor is required. Sally Flint can help find a reasonable, good-sounding flute if needed. Click here to email Sally with questions.

CHORAL EVENSONG

Join us for the first Evensong of the season, celebrating Holy Cross Day. Evensong will be led by St. Paul's Choir, featuring music by John Sheppard, George Dyson, Ralph Vaughan Williams and John Barnard.

TUESDAY STUDY GROUP - NEW BOOK

St. Paul's Indy's Tuesday Study Group is now studying the book "The Gnostic Gospels." In this national bestseller, author Elaine Pagels explores a range of recently discovered gospels, including the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, showing how a variety of “Christianities” emerged at a time of extraordinary spiritual upheaval. All are invited to come, regardless of reading the book. JOIN A MULTIFAITH BOOK STUDY

Starting Tuesday, September 15, 6:30-8 p.m., Parish Hall

Join with St. Paul’s friends and neighbors from across the Northside for a multifaith book study of "There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America," the 2026 Pulitzer Prize winner for nonfiction. Stories of working families experiencing housing insecurity will be explored, considering the systemic forces behind homelessness — and how our communities might respond. This five-session study [sponsored by Northside Congregations for Housing (NCFH), a committee of the Greater Indianapolis Multifaith Alliance (GIMA)] begins at St. Paul’s and continues at other area congregations.
