Consortial Response to EBSCO UI Migration

As all eHLbc members subscribe to EBSCO resources via the Core Suite, you should be aware that EBSCO is migrating to a new user interface (UI) for EBSCOhost and EBSCO Discover Service in 2025. EBSCO has recently confirmed that while they are interested in migrating as many sites as possible to the new interface by January, they will work with individual sites needing to delay their migrations up to July 2025.

Take Action: eHLbc members should reach out directly to their EBSCO representatives Nancy Gormley, ngormley@ebsco.com or Tamara Mobuchon, tmobuchon@ebsco.com to confirm preferred timelines for the migration.

Coordinating Member Feedback on the New UI

To support members through the EBSCO UI migration, since the beginning of 2024 eHLbc and the BC Electronic Library Network (BC ELN) have combined advocacy efforts to collect information and liaise with EBSCO. Actions have included:

  • meeting with EBSCO and health authority members to gather feedback
  • compiling member questions and priorities into a comprehensive spreadsheet
  • communicating feedback to vendor with requests for responses
  • facilitating a joint BC ELN/eHLbc EBSCO UI watercooler session to share information.

These efforts have been in conjunction with a concerted response effort by Consortia Canada (the national group of library consortia), led by the Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries (COPPUL).

The eHLbc Office will continue to work with EBSCO to address member feedback regarding the new UI. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact the eHLbc Office.

eHLbc Community Engagement and Learning Survey Results

Key outcomes: eHLbc members displayed a keen interest in more learning opportunities being available and a moderate interest in devoting time to a community of practice.

Earlier this year the eHLbc Administrative Centre surveyed eHLbc members to gather input about areas of common interest, and about what learning and knowledge sharing experiences would benefit the community. We are pleased to share the results of that survey with the eHLbc community. See the full 2024 survey report

Survey findings surfaced the following recommendations: That the eHLbc Admin Centre...

  1. Continue to hold regular learning sessions.
  2. Add optional discussion time to learning sessions for members to discuss topics of interest.
  3. During learning/discussion session, probe membership further on interest in digital collaboration tools.
  4. Reach out the Health Libraries Association of BC about community engagement strategies.

These findings highlight the need to continue exploring learning and engagement strategies that support eHLbc members.
