Assisi Pilgrimage 2012
Welcome home pilgrims! Your pilgrimage provided time to pray, to look within yourself, to meet the Lord and to make decisions in your life based on Franciscan values, morals and behavior. By walking the roads traveled by Francis and Clare, you had the time to breathe in their values, their viewpoints. By entering into the rituals and Masses, you had the opportunity to meet God with Francis and Clare. By visiting the sacred places, you gained insight to see your own places as sacred places.
Upon returning to your home, we are confident that you will see things differently with renewed spiritual growth and with an aspiration to no longer be controlled by the forces outside of yourself, but to exercise your self-determination to live as Francis and Clare lived.

Fair Ball - From Canada to Uganda
Team Canada's first game at the 2011 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA was scheduled to be against Team Uganda. But just before last summer's tournament, the African nation's teenaged players were denied entry-visas into the United States.
The injustice didn't sit well with the Canadian contigent from Langley, B.C. and with the help of Right to Play, they set out to make their way to Uganda to right a terrible wrong.
In Fair Ball, a special half-hour documentary narrated by St. Francis Alum Gregg Zaun, Sportsnet brings you along with Zaun, the Langley, B.C. Little League team and major-league players Jimmy Rollins and Derrek Lee for this incredible and inspirational journey.

Strengthening Franciscan Values Through Service
Although Skid Row is only a short thirty minute car ride from St. Francis High School's La Canada Flintridge campus, the suffering and desperation that permeates our nation's largest stable population of homeless persons often seems a world away. However, the harsh reality of such a disparity came to life for thirteen St. Francis students on Monday, April 9, 2012, when they participated in the school's Christian Service Immersion (CSI) program which landed them at The Midnight Mission on the corner of 6th Street and San Pedro in downtown Los Angeles.
While thirty students from St. Francis were on a pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy, to follow in the footsteps of St. Francis, these thirteen young men participated in an urban pilgrimage much closer to home. As participants of the CSI program, each student volunteered to spend part of their Easter vacation serving those in need on Skid Row. The students visited the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Cardinal Manning Center and delivered socks from a recent campus sock drive.
Manuel Sanchez, the organization's Youth & Young Adult Services Coordinator, walked the students through Skid Row and educated them on the issues and concerns affecting the homeless and needy. After walking throughout the area, the young men returned to The Midnight Mission to help prepare and serve lunch for close to 1,000 people. Throughout the day the students also had the opportunity to listen to and talk with those affected by poverty and struggling with hopelessness.
St. Francis High School is dedicated to ensuring that the values taught by St. Francis to his brothers, steeped in the virtues taught by Jesus Christ to his disciples, are incorporated in everything that we do. St. Francis put Jesus' teachings into action by serving those who were marginalized in Assisi and the surrounding areas. He reached out to the lepers, preached the Gospel with inspired words to those who had not heard, and rebuilt the church by building community and reevaluating one's relationship with nature. Jesus taught, and St. Francis reiterated, that an appropriate response to the Gospel is rooted in performing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, as well as works toward social justice. It is our hope that the Christian Service Immersion program provides a solid foundation for the Franciscan values that our school is built upon.

St. Francis Sophomore Finds Joy in Crew
Anthony Chivetta, a sophomore at St. Francis High School, is a dedicated student-athlete but you will not find him training on the athletic field, running the track, or shooting hoops in the gym. Instead, Anthony braves the long drive down to Long Beach each and every day in order to join his teammates on the Long Beach Junior Crew (LBJC) Club. Anthony discovered his passion for the sport of crew this past summer during a camp offered by the club. In August 2011, Anthony was asked to join the club's Novice Men's Crew Team and he has been hard at work developing the bonds of brotherhood with his fellow rowers ever since.
Despite the time commitment required of Anthony, he continues to maintain his status as an Honor Roll student which demonstrates his commitment to academic achievement at St. Francis. Recently Anthony's friend and fellow St. Francis sophomore, Jared Arat, joined him on the crew team. Together, they represent St. Francis High School and LBJC during friendly races and competitive regattas.
Anthony and Jared will be competing this week when LBJC hosts its 21st Long Beach Junior Invitational Regatta (Regatta) on April 16th and 17th at Long Beach Marine Stadium. This event is normally attended by junior crew teams from throughout California, Mexico, UK and other neighboring states like Arizona. GO KNIGHTS!

The St. Francis High School
Spirit Shirt
Since its founding by the Capuchin Franciscan Friars in 1946, our school has been committed to enriching the mind and heart, strengthening respect through service and humility, creating a family environment, and developing men of hope and peace. Today, 66 years later, St. Francis continues to positively impact our lives, the lives of our families and the local communities.
As we reflect back on our beginnings, we look forward to celebrating our heritage by strengthening the spirit of community and brotherhood throughout the entire St. Francis family. To support this effort, we are excited to announce the creation of our Spirit Shirt. The Spirit Shirt is designed to unite the community around the mission of St. Francis High School and celebrate our core Franciscan virtues. Each year a new Spirit Shirt will reaffirm our commitment to the spirit of the Golden Knight and the Capuchin Franciscan tradition.
These shirts will be proudly worn throughout the coming school year - for "White Outs" at select sporting events, on t-shirt days, at rallies and on Brown & Gold Days. Don't be left out! Show your school spirit with this unique, limited-edition shirt and be a part of the excitement. Proceeds from the Spirit Shirt go to benefit St. Francis clubs and student activities.
