What’s Changing
Starting April 1, 2025, a daily collective spending cap for Hoopla services will be implemented. Once the collective daily cap is reached, no more checkouts will be available until midnight.
Why This Change Is Necessary
Hoopla’s usage has dramatically increased over the years, which is exciting. It’s great to know that library users are enthusiastic about borrowing eAudiobooks (the most popular offering) and other items from the eLibrary!
However, since Hoopla operates on a pay-per-use checkout model with costs ranging from $1.99 to $3.99 per item per checkout, the increased usage has put a great deal of pressure on Eastern Shore Regional Library’s (ESRL) budget. The new collective daily spending cap is necessary in order for ESRL to continue providing the service to library users on the Eastern Shore within budgetary constraints.
What This Means for You
Once the daily Hoopla spending cap has been reached, you will be unable to checkout Hoopla items and instead will see a message in Hoopla that says “The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset by midnight.”
When the daily borrow limit resets at midnight, the collective borrow count will start again for the next day.
