Scripture Readings for Ash Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday we begin our forty-day journey toward Easter with a day of fasting and repentance. Marking our foreheads with dust, we acknowledge that we die and return to the earth. At the same time, the dust traces the life-giving cross indelibly marked on our foreheads at baptism. While we journey through Lent to return to God, we have already been reconciled to God through Christ. We humbly pray for God to make our hearts clean while we rejoice that “now is the day of salvation.” Returning to our baptismal call, we more intentionally bear the fruits of mercy and justice in the world.

First Sunday in Lent

On Ash Wednesday the church began its journey toward baptismal immersion in the death and resurrection of Christ. This year, the Sundays in Lent lead us to focus on five covenants God makes in the Hebrew Scriptures and to use them as lenses through which to view baptism. First Peter connects the way God saved Noah’s family in the flood with the way God saves us through the water of baptism. The baptismal covenant is made with us individually, but the new life we are given in baptism is for the sake of the whole world.
From the desk of Pastor Katie

Grace, peace and every good be with you!

What week this has been. Know that you all have been on my heart and mind constantly. I pray each one of you are safe and as warm as can be.

The church building continues to have consistent power - please be in touch if you need to warm up, charge devices, etc.

We have opened our building for folks who have needed a warm place to stay. Currently we have 31 folks in various classrooms/rooms/etc. Thanks to Hutto Resource Center for their help in providing food for us to be able to offer some hot meals to folks staying with us.

We will have Ash Wednesday worship (somehow). Likely, it will be pre-recorded and be put on our YouTube channel sometime on Wednesday. I have also put together an At-Home devotion if you prefer that with uncertainty of power/internet still a challenge for us.

No doubt these are challenging times (on top of what was challenging times)...we'll continue to be the Church by loving and serving our neighbors...we'll continue to rely on the strength of the Holy Spirit to bind us together

Peace be with you,
Pastor Katie

Cemetery Clean-up Day
Your assistance is needed at Hutto Lutheran Cemetery on Saturday, March 27th from 8-noon to prepare the cemetery for Easter. If you have a family Lot, please come prepared to weed, clean, and adorn that Lot as you see fit. If you are unable to come yourself, then please encourage someone from your clan to do so. If you do not have a family Lot, but would like to help, please come prepared to adopt a Lot for the day and make it clean and weed free for Easter. If a whole Lot is more than you can handle, then individual grave Plots are also available for “adoption” for the day. Being prepared means bringing a hoe, rake, gloves, hat, mask, and a weed-eater, if you have one. There are other tasks to be done, one of which is setting a post in the northeast corner to mark the property line. There are also a few trees that need a bit of trimming in order to allow vehicles to pass safely beneath the branches. If you feel like you could help in that area, your service is requested. There will be a light lunch served at noon. Water and drinks will be provided throughout the workday. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Donna Fowler by calling, texting at (512) 736-2001, or email. dmfowler74@hotmail.com. Hope to see you at HLC on March 27th.
