Christmas Thank You
Today is the 9th day of Christmas and seems a great time to give thanks for all of the ministers - seen and unseen - who ensured that our worship flowed smoothly on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. From flower guild to ushers, acolytes to choir, altar guild and everyone, everyone, Thank You from the bottom of my heart. - Pastor Debra+
Worship & Formation
Sunday School Winter Break
After a successful but busy autumn and early winter, our Sunday School volunteers need a winter break. So. . . Sunday School resumes on Sunday, February 3 at 9:15 a.m. At that time we will begin meeting every other week. We hope that this way more families will be able to participate with their children. It is always more fun for volunteers and for the children when there are more people in attendance! If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Debra. . . and, in the meantime, please hold our teachers in your prayers as they rest and refresh!

Note for Teens: The class for Middle School and High School students will continue to meet in January!

Outreach & Social Justice
Vision Keeper: St. Mark’s is pleased to announce that Allison Ashley has been named this year’s Vision Keeper of the Year for her work in establishing and moving forward the work of the Creation Team and for her creativity in taking the Wednesday lunch packing ministry to 1020 Grove once a month so that the residents could participate in serving our neighbors in need. Allison will be honored at a banquet and fundraiser for Interfaith Action of Evanston on Sunday, February 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Orrington in Evanston. If you would like to join in this celebration, please make a check payable to Interfaith Action of Evanston for $75 and give it to Pastor Debra. Everyone is welcome!

Midweek Lunch: Each week, volunteers from St. Mark's and St. Matthew's work together to prepare and serve meals for our neighbors who struggle with hunger and homelessness. On Tuesdays from 6-6:30 p.m. volunteers prepare sandwiches. On Wednesdays, volunteers gather in Cunningham Hall from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. to serve the meal and talk with our guests. If you would like to help, please contact John Lucadamo or Donna Richardson for more information.

The Mitten Tree: remains in the parlor through the Feast of the Epiphany - January 6. Please consider bringing new hats, mittens, gloves or scarves for our neighbors in need. Children's sizes will be donated to ESCCA and adult sizes will be shared with the Hospitality Center.

Other News and Information

Vestry Nominations
At the January 27, 2019 Annual Meeting, St. Mark’s will be electing 3 persons to each fill a 3-year term on the vestry and 1 person to fill a 1-year unexpired term on the vestry. A nominating committee has been formed: Pat Bent ( p ebent1@gmail.com / 847-909-7334), Rachel Easton ( jrwarden@stmarksevanston.org / 224-234-9380), Doug Sondgeroth ( srwarden@stmarksevanston.org / d_sondgeroth@hotmail.com / 312-802-9289), and Austin Suvari ( austinsuvari@gmail.com / 847-721-3866). If you are interested in serving, would like to nominate someone, or would like more information about what this ministry entails, please contact any member of the nominating committee.

Annual Reports: As we come to the close of 2018, it is time to reflect on all that has gone before us. As you reflect, please consider writing a report for the Annual Report either about a ministry area you lead or a short paragraph about a ministry you are involved in outside of St. Mark's (because the church is wherever God's people are!). Please send your reports - as a Word or Text file - to Timothy by Friday, January 11. Photos are encouraged and most welcome. If you'd like a copy of last year's report sent to you electronically, let Timothy know.

Alcohol: If you or someone you love may have a problem with alcohol and you would like to discuss it in confidence, please contact Pastor Debra. In addition, there is an AA meeting that takes place at St. Mark's every Wednesday morning at 6:45 a.m. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop driniking. There is also a meeting of Al-Anon each Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.
