July is usually a quiet month for us here at the Gallery, so it’s a good time for us to take in all the other art events and cultural experiences in Kingston and around the island. We were delighted to see the return of the Calabash Literary Festival which kicked off the summer season late June. Art Fairs are also back on the calendar with the ever-popular Liguanea Art Festival which was held earlier this month, along with the Christmas in July Trade Show.
Art Auctions have also made a comeback, with the staging of two charity fund-raisers, the Liguanea Lodge Art Auction and the Jamaicans for Justice Art & Collectibles Auction, both held on the same weekend late last month.
We can look forward to viewing new work as artists eagerly respond to the National Gallery of Jamaica’s recent open call for its upcoming exhibition ‘The Face of Us.’ Meanwhile we are seeing pop-up solo and group exhibitions staged in some of the newer galleries, as well as at private residences. And there are some new art venues, including a new gallery recently opened in Montego Bay.
Reminding you that both Olympia Gallery and OMG are open to the public (group and individual tours), Tuesday-Saturdays from 10am-4pm, so come by when you have time – there’s always something new to see in OMG and the main Gallery is currently showing works from our Olympia Collection... And while you are here, have a look at our selection of new frames in the Frame Shop!
