City of Cambridge Announces Tentative Road Resurfacing Schedule

Cambridge, MD (April 14, 2025). With the return of Spring, road work will resume in Cambridge. The City is pleased to announce a tentative schedule for road resurfacing, beginning with sidewalk crossing improvements for selected streets in mid-April, with paving running through this fall. This year the City will resurface approximately 11,750 linear feet or about 2.2 miles of street.

The Engineering Department maintains a list of streets in need of resurfacing, with the worst streets receiving the highest priority. A “Pavement Condition Study” was conducted in 2018 by the consulting firm IMS, a company specializing in roadway pavement assessments, to help the City determine the priority list.

The annual paving project will be undertaken by the David A. Bramble Company, which was awarded the project through a competitive bid last September. The company successfully completed the City’s FY23/24 paving project, including Pine Street from High Street to Cedar Street.

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina Introduces Reiki Energy Healing Treatments

Cambridge, Md. (April 15, 2025) – Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina, an award-winning waterfront destination set on 342 acres of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, announces the debut of Reiki energy healing at its renowned Sago Spa & Salon. These new treatments will be offered by Kim Vetter, a certified Reiki Master, and are designed to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and release tension.

“Reiki is a transformative healing practice that promotes balance and energy flow within the body,” said Taylor Sutton, Director of Spa at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. “Unlike traditional massage, which focuses on muscle manipulation, Reiki involves a gentle, light touch on various areas of the body to stimulate the chakras and channel energy, helping guests experience profound relaxation and emotional wellbeing.”

In addition to the new Reiki offerings, Sago Spa & Salon boasts an extensive menu of rejuvenating treatments. Named after the resilient underwater grass found in the Chesapeake Bay, Sago Spa’s signature services feature natural, sea-based products celebrated for their revitalizing properties. Guests can enjoy treatments such as the VOYA seaweed poultice massage and the Eminence marine flower hydrating peptide facial.

Partnerships make a difference in mental health for area veterans and their families

More than one in four people on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are part of the military community – either active military, guard reservists, veterans, or family members of the military. To help serve the needs of this significant population, For All Seasons has gotten a second matching grant from the Sheila E. Hixson Behavioral Health Services Matching Grant Program to address the high instances of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, and sexual assault-related trauma among local service members, veterans, and their families.

“We are thrilled to be involved with this partnership with the Veteran and Military Support Alliance (VAMSA) at the Center for the Military and Veteran Family in Stevensville. We are working together to get veterans and their families the support they need. Our Open Access™ program eliminates a waitlist and allows individuals and families to begin mental health services in a timely way. Individuals can select a time window and a location, complete their intake, and meet with a therapist on the same day. It’s the first mental health delivery model of its kind on the Eastern Shore, and is helping area veterans in their time of need,” comments Beth Anne Dorman, President & CEO of For All Seasons.

Main Street Gallery's Spring show features Carla Huber

Main Street Gallery is delighted to be exhibiting a show of guest artist Carla Huber’s oil paintings and recent monoprints this spring in a show titled "2 Ways About It". Carla, a well known and award winning plein air painter who lives and maintains a studio in Woolford, has created a series of hand pulled monoprints that were inspired by and correspond to several of her oil paintings.

The gallery will pair the monoprints and the oil paintings, hanging them side by side so as to give the viewer a unique insight into how she interpreted her subject in two different ways using two different media.

Carla claims that her love of the outdoors and the Eastern Shore have strongly influenced her plein air artwork. This is readily apparent in the pieces in this show. “The outdoors is my studio” she says, and the flora and fauna along with sailboats, the seashore and other Eastern Shore scenes populate these works and have been her subjects for the last twenty years. During that time, Carla has participated in the popular Plein Air show in Easton and has shown her work in several Eastern Shore galleries.

But Carla’s journey as an artist began well before she moved to the Eastern shore. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in New York City and studied at the NY School of Visual Arts. After finishing school she moved to the Washington DC area where she worked as a fashion illustrator for several department stores.

Picture Power: How Visual Content Supercharges Small Business Engagement Across Platforms

The digital presence of small businesses is no longer defined by storefronts or static websites. It now stretches across a dynamic mix of platforms—Instagram reels, TikTok videos, Pinterest boards, LinkedIn carousels, and interactive stories on Facebook. In this fast-scrolling environment, visual content isn't a luxury; it's the frontline of communication. It's not about flashy production or massive budgets either—what counts is resonance, clarity, and authenticity, all bundled into imagery that makes someone pause, click, and engage.

Book Drive

The Dorchester County Public Library kicked off Black History Month with a community Book Drive for 5 partner organizations: The Cambridge Boys & Girls Club, New Beginnings Community Center, Harvesting Hope Youth & Family Wellness (Reading Socials), the Cambridge Empowerment Center, and the Pauline F. & W. David Robbins Family YMCA. This drive is part of a statewide initiative with the Maryland Commission on African American History: https://africanamerican.maryland.gov/ and aligns with our goals to get more books out into the communities facing barriers to access.

New/like new/gently used titles can be donated to either library branch from now until April 26th. The Library will then divvy up and present the donated books to our community partners to house within their organizations for their after-school programs or to distribute to the children and families they serve.

Donated titles must feature Black characters, culture, and experiences, and can be fiction or non fiction, for ages 3+. Recommended titles/authors can be selected from our Amazon Wishlist (https://a.co/265R3kL) and will ship directly to the Cambridge Library.

Help us reach our goal of 250 books by sharing this information or possibly donating a book to the Drive!

All weekend long we’ll be serving up a few Easter weekend specials, we’ll be working hard to prepare all of those Emily’s favorites that you’ve missed all winter long, we’ll be stocked up with colorful flowers, we’ll be bringing the holiday weekend spirit, and we’ll even be assisting the Easter Bunny as he hides his special freebie treats all around the market (keep your eyes peeled for those little orange carrots & you could be enjoying a free Refreshment Bar treat)
