This free event is open to Veterans, their spouses and dependents of Veterans.
This is also a great opportunity for students / young people who might be interested in a military career.
Resource Vendors will be present at the event, which will be held at the American Legion Post #91, located at 98 Sunburst Highway, Cambridge, MD 21613 on May 7 from 4-6 p.m.

| | MD 250 Planting Heritage Trees Across Maryland | |
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The Maryland 250 Commission is making the state a little more green with history as they’re planting heritage trees.
Members of the Dorchester County Women’s Club gathered Monday morning to help plant this little sapling on the grounds of the club building.
The trees are genetic off springs of a Poplar Tree that dates back 250 years to both Maryland and the United States’ founding.
And we caught up with the Maryland 250 Commission Director about planting these heritage trees across the state.

CWDI Engages MacKenzie as Broker to Advance Cambridge Harbor | |
Cambridge Waterfront Development, Inc. (CWDI) has entered into an agreement with MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, LLC to support the next phase of implementation for the Cambridge Harbor redevelopment project, a transformative mixed-use initiative along the city’s waterfront.
Under the agreement, signed April 15,MacKenzie will serve as the exclusive broker for the marketing and sale of development parcels within the approximately 29-acre Cambridge Harbor site. The firm will lead efforts to prepare marketing materials, conduct outreach to regional and national developers, and help identify qualified development partners. MacKenzie will also support negotiations as the project advances.
Cambridge Harbor is envisioned as a vibrant, mixed-use waterfront district featuring residential, hospitality, maritime, and public access components. Development will occur in phases and will be guided by CWDI’s adopted master plan and design standards to ensure consistency with the community’s long-term vision.

Evaluating Suicide Risk in Youth: R.I.S.K2 - The Risk Identification Suicide Kit2+
Are schools and mental health practitioners asking the right questions or using validated assessment tools to determine suicide risk levels in youth? Research tells us, probably not. Practitioners will be called to initially triage a suicidal youth to determine levels of interventions. The practitioner’s preparedness can determine what action steps are needed, understanding the many pitfalls, litigation, and decisions that await along this process. Training will be provided on the use of the Risk Identification Suicide Kit2+ (RISK2+), Second Edition.
This presentation will share how preparation percentages identified among mental health practitioners impacts the confidence and decision-making process when meeting with a youth presenting with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. A review of current trends, understanding of the suicide continuum (from age 13) and suicide reactive continuum (from age 4) will be shared. There are only a few pathways an assessment can lead; towards a path of recovery, management, and or death. The ultimate goal is to lead the youth and family towards a path of recovery and a desire to choose living. This presentation will support and empower school and mental health practitioners by expanding skills sets and intervention considerations along the suicide assessment process.
Upon completion of this training, attendees will receive 5.5 Category 1, Social Work CEUs or a Certificate of Attendance.

Cambridge Crab Run
We are excited to say that we are returning for our traditional Sunday (Mother's Day) event!!!
The Crab Run consists of a half marathon (13.1 miles) immediately followed by a 5k (3.1 miles) run, all from the grounds of Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh, located at 0 Somerset Avenue, Cambridge. Our half marathon follows the same course as the Eagleman event in June, a perfect opportunity for a preview of the course in cooler temperatures.
This race takes you past the Choptank River at the start before rolling out to the country roads of Dorchester County.
If you are looking for a challenge, why not sign up for the KING CRAB challenge? You must complete the half marathon in under 2 hours to make it in time for the start of the 5k. Do you have what it takes to make the time cut?

Guided Birding Tour
Expert birder Terry Allen will help you find and identify the large variety of birds that are found on Blackwater NWR!
Guided birding tours meet at 8am at the Blackwater Visitor Center. Tours may last 3-4 hours. Bring your binoculars* and field guides are recommended. Dress appropriately for the weather. The birding party will caravan via car to birding hotspots around the Wildlife Drive.
There is no fee or advanced registration for these tours.
*If you do not have binoculars, the refuge has several loaner binoculars available.
