Cambridge Ice & Oyster Festival Announces 5th Year
A holiday weekend of winter fun is coming to downtown Cambridge the weekend of January 16, 2026 when the Cambridge Ice & Oyster Festival returns for its fifth year with an action-packed event full of activities celebrating Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The theme for 2026 is “Celebrating America’s 250th”.
The festival is a Free, Friendly, Family Fun event featuring dozens of ice sculptures, oysters, ice games, photo ops, craft beverages, live music, and more. The event kicks off Friday, January 16th from 5 to 8 pm and then will be open on Saturday, January 17th from 11 am to 7 pm.
The event is once again presented by the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina with the support of many Mid-Shore businesses and organizations. It will feature dozens of dazzling 3D ice sculptures reflecting the imagery of Dorchester County (The Heart of the Chesapeake) and America’s History. Attendees can also enjoy a selection of wild and farm-raised oysters, craft beer and cocktails served at ice bars, hot chocolate, s’mores at open flame fire pits, and other favorite foods.
The Ice & Oyster Festival grounds span the parking lots behind Chesapeake College in downtown Cambridge from Cannery Way (400 block of Race St.) to Blue Ruin Plaza with more sculptures on Race and Poplar Streets. Live music will be featured on two stages.
Throughout the festival site, 3D sculptures carved from more than 400,000 pounds of ice will be displayed while master carvers will show off their artistry with live demonstrations. An ice slide for the young ones, duck hunting blind and the graffiti wall are among the many prior year favorites that are back and provide great photo opportunities. Kids of all ages can try their skill at popular ice games, including a mini golf putting course. New this year is a walk-through ice maze to challenge your abilities to navigate inside frozen walls. There will be many other sculptures that represent the heritage of the shore and America’s 250 years of history.

Cambridge Gets Clean Audit; City Reserves Continue to Grow
The City of Cambridge’s finances earned the highest possible rating this year, with independent auditors reporting that the city’s budgets, grants and financial practices are in strong shape, according to a recently-completed audit.
At the Dec. 8 meeting of the City Commissioners, Audit Manager Ryan Taylor of the PKS accounting firm walked officials through the results. He said Cambridge received a clean, or unmodified, opinion on its fiscal 2025 financial statements, essentially confirming that the city’s books are accurate and well managed.
Because Cambridge spent more than $750,000 in federal funds last year, auditors also performed a separate review of how the city handled that money. Federal spending exceeded $6.1 million, including grants for pandemic recovery and flood protection. PKS found no compliance problems or weaknesses in how Cambridge tracked or reported those funds.

Vienna Readies for 44th Annual Luminaria
The quaint 300-year-old riverside town of Vienna, Maryland, is always a special place, but it is magical on the night of the luminaries. So, the Vienna Heritage Society and Town of Vienna are inviting everyone to come and celebrate the holiday season with family and friends at the 44th Annual Luminaria. The event takes place on Saturday, December 20 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Early in December each year, members of the community prepare 1,500 beautiful cut bags with lights to dazzle the streets. The volunteers start at about 3:30 p.m. on the day to distribute the luminaria. It is an occasion where the local community works together, and the town glows with the final result.
With adequate parking at the Nanticoke River John Smith Discovery Center at 113 Ocean Gateway, you can catch the free tram for your ride around town. (Parking is also available at the Vienna Town Hall/ballfield at Market and Middle Streets.)

Cambridge PD Receives Large Grant
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The Cambridge Police Department is receiving a massive grant from the state of Maryland in order to purchase some new traffic monitoring equipment. However, as we found out, that equipment is going to serve multiple purposes.
The Police Department was awarded $99,735 from the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant to further fund their Safety through Technology, Education and Partnerships Program, or STEP.
Chief Justin Todd says the money is going towards some key pieces of equipment, with the goal of helping curb teen crime.
He tells WMDT, “With our ShotSpotter technology that we already have, the surveillance systems we already have. We’re going to be able to connect, with our youth in ways that be able to stop crime for they for they began.”

Blue Christmas Service
A service of remembrance and hope.
The Christmas season is hard for those whose hearts are hurting.
The designation acknowledges the "Blue" feelings many people experience during the Advent and Chritmas seasons.
For those who have lost a loved one, this is a time of aute lonelieness. For thos who have lost a relationship or a job, experienced failing health or financial setbacks, this is a time of pain, confusion and anxiety. We can still worship with honesty in the confidence that God shares our pain, understands our loss and seeks to be present in the comforting and hopeful ways.
Blue Christmas is a gentle, contemplative service that offers comfort and hope for those carrying pain or loss during this season of celebration.
