For All Seasons Shares Information and Resources During Human Trafficking Awareness Month

2026CSDHSGroupShotRedSandProject image

For All Seasons hosted several activities during January to promote Human Trafficking Awareness Month. For this year’s annual Red Sand Project, staff involved all For All Seasons’ offices and many partners across the Shore in the awareness initiative using red sand to represent victims of human trafficking who may be hiding in plain sight. Red sand was poured into sidewalk or pavement cracks to spark dialogue and awareness.

Susan Ahlstrom, Regional Navigator, provided Human Trafficking Awareness 101 and Internet Safety presentations across the five Mid-Shore counties. Additionally, Susan and team members provided youth and family education at Cambridge South Dorchester High School, North Dorchester High School, and in Caroline County Public Schools. For All Seasons’ staff also presented proclamations in all 5 counties on the Mid-Shore.

Our Center for Learning shared two free human trafficking prevention online courses created by For All Seasons: one for the hospitality industry and one for mandated reporters.

For All Seasons' Center for Learning also hosted a free Lunch & Learn, bringing together community members both in person and virtually for an important conversation about protecting youth and vulnerable individuals from online exploitation and human trafficking.

Jayla Elise of Cambridge is introducing a bill in the state senate later this week. If passed, the bill would approve her song, called “Heart of Maryland” as the official Maryland state song.

Jayla says being able to get this approved would be huge for the Dorchester County’s music and entertainment scene.

CWDI Selects Broker, Takes Stock as Year Closes

At its December 18, 2025, meeting, the Cambridge Waterfront Development Inc. (CWDI) board announced that it has selected a commercial real estate broker to market properties at Cambridge Harbor.

CWDI Board President Angie Hengst said the broker’s identity will be revealed once the contract is finalized, adding the presence of a broker marks a significant step toward attracting private developers for the infrastructure and public amenities envisioned for the project.

The board also used the year’s final meeting to review finances, discuss a proposed operating budget, and note renewed federal interest in the project.

Financial Review and Approvals

Board members approved updated financial statements for audit, showing the project remains primarily grant-funded with total grant income just under $2.4 million. Key funding includes a nearly $1.8 million federal Economic Development Administration grant, a state appropriation as local match, and about $297,000 from the state Rural Economic Development Fund for infrastructure design.

Jymil-scaled-1-2048x1438 image

Dorchester County Public Schools leaders urged residents and business owners to take a more active role in student success during the district’s second annual State of the Schools luncheon on Jan. 27 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay.

At the event, Superintendent Dr. Jymil Thompson highlighted recent academic gains, described what he called a shift in district culture, and outlined a push for broader community participation tied to state testing, career pathways, and student support.

“We believe that our students deserve our very best,” Thompson told the assembled education specialists, advocates, and community leaders. “Life is all about progressing and continuous improvement.”

The program included Thompson’s remarks, a panel discussion featuring school officials, a parent, and community partners, and updates on safety measures, apprenticeships, and new outreach efforts.

Crowned in Culture

Join us at Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park with Danielle Johnson, Senior Cosmetologist at Mirror Mirror, for an engaging Black History Month program exploring the history and culture significance of hair and beauty in African and African-American communities. This interactive event features a panel discussion on hair health, styling, hair loss, and current trentds, followed by a live model showcase celebrating heritage, creativity, and modern expression. Come learn, connect, and elebrate the power of Black beauty across generations.

As owner of Mirror Mirror Salon in historic Cambridge, Maryland, Danielle combines technical excellence with a calming, client-focused experience. A U.S. Army veteran, Danielle is passionate about mentorship and empowering women through beauty and education. Her work is proudly featured on "Young Harriet," the 13-foot Harriet Tubman statue located outside the Dorchester County Circuit Court, honoring both heritage and legacy.
