Teachers Who Make a Difference: Hurlock Pre-K3 teacher educates with sparkle
HURLOCK, Md. — Teacher Who Makes a Difference, sponsored by Pam Price and Associates, is a way for locals to honor and celebrate educators who work tirelessly to shape the next generation of students. This teacher is impacting young minds.
Mrs. Brinsfield was nominated because, “We’re nominating this teacher because I have seen firsthand that she will stay late to help with events and after-school programs. The kids absolutely love her. She works extra hard and is always thinking of creative things to do with her students to teach them new things.”
In response to the award, Mrs. Brinsfield said, “I am very surprised. I was shocked. I wasn’t sure what was going on when you guys walked in with the camera, and it’s not something you see every day in the classroom anyway.”
With 10 years under her belt, Mrs. Brinsfield, a pre-K 3 teacher, said she had a teacher who inspired her to make a difference in the profession.

City of Cambridge Honors Rev. Charles T. Cephas, Sr. with Key to the City
On Monday evening, Cambridge officials presented Rev. Charles T. Cephas Sr., the former mayor of Hurlock, with the ceremonial key to the city during the commissioners’ meeting, recognizing his decades of public service and community leadership in Dorchester County.
Mayor Lajan Cephas, his cousin, led the presentation, noting the longtime public servant’s contributions to both Hurlock and the broader region.
“This is about recognizing a lifetime of service,” the mayor said during the ceremony. “Rev. Cephas has dedicated himself to this community through public office, through ministry, and through his work as a former law enforcement officer. It is only fitting that we recognize that commitment tonight.”
Rev. Cephas served as Hurlock’s mayor from 2021 through 2025. His victory in November 2021 made him the town’s first African American mayor. Before that, he spent 20 years on the Hurlock Town Council, including 10 years as council president.

The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore’s (UWLES) Emerging Leaders have wrapped up their 2025 “Holiday Heroes” programs, having served nearly 1,000 community members through their youth-driven holiday assistance initiatives.

Thanksgiving efforts were supported by TidalHealth nursing departments and Your Docs In staff donating baskets of meal sides, and Perdue furnishing 6 cases of poultry. The Secret Santa program was supported by a fundraising surplus from the previous year and generous grant funding from Coastal Association of Realtors, Walmart Spark Good, and Bless Our Children. Fundraising for their 2026 initiatives have already begun, with Christmas in July scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Comedian Monique Marvez
Comedian Monique Marvez will be at The Avalon Theatre, hosted by Radio Chesapeake.
This impressive Latina comedian had the #1 Dry Bar Comedy Special in 2024 with 70 Million views on their website alone and over a quarter of a billion views across multiple platforms.
Emerging from the South Beach/Miami scene with her hourglass figure and her stopwatch wit she was immediately heralded as a bright & provocative talent. She is more than a stand-up comic – she is a cultural translator, relationship whisperer and a fearless truthteller bridging demographics, decades and generations. Delivering an equal amount of AHAs for every HA-HA. She has four Showtime specials and one on HBO. As a writer she collaborated with John Gray on the off-Broadway show Mars/Venus LIVE!
