Cambridge community honors Lincoln with Gettysburg Address reenactment
Today marks 162 years since President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address, and in Cambridge, that historic moment was brought back to life at the Meredith House.
Neighbors gathered to listen as David Rose, the town crier, delivered the speech, echoing Lincoln’s iconic words: “…our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”
Paul Callahan of the Talbot Historical Society reflected on the continued significance of Lincoln’s legacy.
“Lincoln reverted back to the Declaration of Independence,” Callahan said. “Four score and seven years ago reverts back to the Declaration of Independence.”
David Rose helped make the reenactment a memorable experience.

A Local Odyssey: One Woman’s Life with Breast Cancer – Part 2
When a breast cancer diagnosis hits, the questions pile up faster than the answers. In this second part of our conversation with For All Seasons CEO Beth Anne Dorman, she picks up the story after the shock — when the real decisions begin. Surgery or radiation? Reconstruction or not? Second opinions? Side effects? How do you balance medical advice with the need for some sense of control?
Beth Anne talks through her choices with her usual honesty. For her, a bilateral mastectomy offered the clearest path forward — a way to lower risk and be here for her boys. Reconstruction was also a personal decision tied to identity, even while she recognizes that every woman’s choices look different.
The support around her shapes much of this discussion: a husband at every appointment, sons learning more about cancer than they expected, and a community that quietly showed on the sidelines, some in small, meaningful way with pink socks and wristbands. She also shares the private decisions — closing the browser instead of Googling worst-case scenarios, sending late-night questions through the patient portal, and trusting the experts close to home.

Cambridge Unites for Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday
A coalition of local churches, small businesses, and volunteers is preparing to serve hundreds of residents at the annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner on Monday, November 24. The free meal begins at 1 p.m. at Cambridge Wesleyan Church, 801 Race Street, and is hosted by One Mission Cambridge.
Now in its third year, the dinner has grown into a significant community collaboration. Partners include One Mission Cambridge, Cambridge Wesleyan Church, Simmons Center Market, Taqueria Floritas, Carmela’s Cucina, the Cambridge Police Department, additional local churches, and numerous volunteers. Organizers began meeting nearly two months ago to coordinate food preparation, transportation, logistics, volunteer support, and sponsorships.
The scale of the event is significant. Simmons Center Market, a family-run business serving Cambridge since 1937, oversees the procurement and storage of all ingredients. This includes dozens of turkeys, potatoes, stuffing supplies, paper goods, and carry-out trays. Owner Ricky Travers said his team manages the essential behind-the-scenes work that allows the dinner to operate smoothly.
“We’re the guys behind the scenes,” Travers said. “We handle the logistics, the products, and getting it all there so the event goes off without a hitch. We have probably served the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents of many of the people who will come through the line.”
Much of the cooking is led by Taqueria Floritas. Owner Christopher Rojas Zayas and his staff prepare the turkeys and several side dishes. Their work starts on the Wednesday before the dinner and often requires 12 to 13-hour days. With limited oven space, the team uses both the restaurant kitchen and its food truck to cook 6 to 8 turkeys at a time.
“I was raised to give back, and I want my kids to grow up seeing that,” Rojas Zayas said. “A hot plate of food can bring people together, start conversations, and remind us that we are all part of the same community. Cambridge has supported us, and we want to give that back.”
On the day of the event, Simmons Center Market will use its delivery trucks to collect finished dishes from participating kitchens and transport them to the church hall. Volunteers from multiple partner organizations will set up warming racks, organize serving lines, and assist with distributing meals.

Choptank Health recognizes National Rural Health Day
Choptank Community Health System is proud to join communities across the country in celebrating National Rural Health Day on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
The observance was created in 2011 by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. It is held each year to spotlight the unique challenges facing rural communities and to honor the resilience of the nearly 61 million people who call rural America home.
“Rural communities are the backbone of our state, and their health is vital to our collective future,” said Choptank Health President and CEO Sara Rich. “We’re proud to celebrate National Rural Health Day and honor the unwavering commitment of rural healthcare providers, organizations, and community leaders who work every day to improve the lives of others.”
This year, Choptank Health marked the occasion by participating in the Rural Maryland Council’s Health-Focused Bus Tour, which highlighted Choptank Health’s new Federalsburg Health Center. The tour highlighted the innovative approaches Choptank Health is using to improve health and wellness for the Mid-Shore’s rural communities.

For All Seasons Offers Tips for Grief During the Holidays
The holidays can be challenging for many, but for those grieving loved ones, they can be especially difficult. This may be because the season often comes with expectations of joy, or because holiday traditions once shared with someone now gone can bring a renewed sense of loss.
Mass General Brigham (https://www.massgeneralbrigham.org/) reports that grief is the mirror of love and that the holidays are naturally centered around love and connection. Making room for all the emotions that arise during this time, rather than avoiding them, helps us integrate grief into our lives and move through the season with greater compassion for ourselves.
